The Best Time to Visit Vietnam

Vietnam has a tropical climate in the south and a monsoon climate in the north.

Remember to pack appropriate clothes for the hot and rainy season from May to September and the warm and dry season from October to March.

The best months of the year to visit Vietnam are during the autumn months from September to December and in spring in March and April. Although, the country has such diverse weather conditions so you can visit almost anytime of the year depending on the region you choose. 

High Season - July to August

From July to August, the weather in Vietnam is typically hot and humid with heavy rainfall except in the northern part of the country. During these months, the price of hotels increases a lot and they are often booked out, so be sure to book your accommodation well in advance.

Shoulder Seasons - December to March

In the south you will experience clear skies and sunshine while in the north it can get rather cool at this time of year. This is the best time to visit the southeastern part of Vietnam and the Mekong River Delta. From late January to early February, the whole country closes to celebrate the Tet Festival (Lunar New Year) for several days - note that prices will rise during this period.

Low Season - April to June, September to November

This is a great time to plan your trip to Vietnam, with affordable rates and great weather conditions all around the country. But for the best experience, consider visiting the northwest and northeast of Vietnam as well as the Red River Delta which is a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Be aware that typhoons may affect the coastline in central and northern Vietnam until November. 

Events: Hue Festival, Da Nang Fireworks Festival, Celebration of Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death.
