Día de Muertos in Mexico City 💀🇲🇽

Día de Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, is one of the most magical times of the year to visit Mexico City! 💀🇲🇽 It is a two-day holiday (Nov. 1-2) with parties and celebrations happening all week long. Día de Muertos celebrates life and death, in a way of honor and joyful remembrance! 🙏✨🎉 Though it's right after Halloween 👻 and involves people dressing up as skeletons (called "Catrines" and "Catrinas"), it is not spooky, scary or sad. During Día de Muertos, it's believed that we can temporarily be reunited with our loved ones who have passed away — that their spirits will visit us, and celebrate with us as we remember them fondly. It's quite beautiful! 💖 During the week of Día de Muertos, expect to see the streets lined with marigolds, called "cempasuchitl" or "flower of the dead" 🏵️✨ to help the spirits of our loved ones find their way to us. Ornate ofrendas, which are altars built to pay tribute to those who have passed, will be in every home and nearly every business! 🕯️🌈 You'll see many calaveras (skulls) decorating the city, but again, don't worry — they are cute, not creepy 🧡💀 On this 5-day adventure throughout Mexico City, we will learn about and celebrate Día de Muertos, participating in the beloved holiday's most culturally significant activities, like building our own ofrenda, visiting an authentic local cemetery, and more.
