Pack your backpack and travel through Cambodia with me! 🇰🇭 In 15 days we will travel Cambodia from the coast on the Gulf of Thailand, through the sparkling capital Phnom Penh to the mystical temples of Angkor Wat. Itinerary through Cambodia: Phnom Penh 🏙️ -> Kampot 🌿 -> Kratie🐬 OR Sihanoukville🌅 -> Siem Reap 🏯 -> Battambang 🏞️ -> Bangkok/Phnom Penh 🚌✈️ _________________________________________________________________________ ℹ️ OVERVIEW: Day 1-4: Cruel history 🏙️ Our journey begins in the capital Phnom Penh. The city (and the whole country) has a very eventful and cruel history. In order to better understand the country and the culture, we will mainly focus on the history of the Khmer Rouge, in addition to a bit of sightseeing, before sampling the delicacies of (vegetarian) Cambodian cuisine in the city's markets. Day 4-7: Where the pepper grows 🏞️ We leave the capital and drive 3 hours towards the coast. In the cozy little town of Kampot, known for its pepper, which is popular with French star chefs, the construction boom has taken a break, leaving the little town with its flair. We will hire a scooter here and explore the surrounding area and visit a pepper plantation. Day 7-10: Option 1: Paddling with river dolphins 🐬 From Kampot, we head north along the Mekong River via Phnom Penh to the small provincial town of Kratie. This relaxed town directly on the Mekong is the perfect starting point for a kayak tour to observe the (now unfortunately rare) river dolphins that live here. The many Mekong islands also offer the perfect conditions for a relaxing day on the river and a perfect break after the long journey. Day 7-10 Option 2: Enjoy Cambodia's island world 🌅 Instead of paddling to Mekong islands by kayak, we can also spend 2 relaxing days on an island off Sihanoukville. Unfortunately, the once idyllic islands are becoming increasingly overdeveloped and the coastal town of Sihanoukville no longer has much of its original backpacking flair. But it's still good enough for a few nice days on the beach. Day 10-13: On the trail of Indiana Jones 🏯 Now that we've recharged our batteries, it's on to Siem Reap. The city is the gateway to the world-famous Angkor Wat temple complex and an absolute must-see on any trip to Asia (❌ entrance fee is not included in the price and must be paid on site). As the complex is really very large, we have enough time to add a second day at Angkor Wat if we wish. The area around Siem Reap also has a lot to offer and the city itself is worth a visit anyway with its vibrant nightlife. 🍺 Day 13-15: See bats fly 🦇 To round off our trip to Cambodia, we have the opportunity to visit the relaxed town of Battambang. The town on the Sangker River is known for its well-preserved French colonial buildings and the charming surroundings with several "mini" Angkor Wats and a huge bat cave, from which millions of bats fly out every evening in search of food. 🛤️ From Battambang, we either take the bus back to Phnom Penh or return to Bangkok with me. This is where our Cambodian adventure ends. ✈️🏙️ _________________________________________ What can you expect on this trip? ➕ A real backpacking feeling 🎒 ➕ Explore the UNESCO Angkor Wat ruins by bike 🚲 ➕ Learn all about pepper incl. pepper tasting ➕ A cool relaxed tour group with a maximum of 6 people 🤗 ➕ Celebrate with other backpackers from all over the world in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap🍺🌏 ➕ A mix of party, culture and nature. 🥳🏛️🌿 What is included in the tour price? ✅ All transfers (bus, train, cab, boat, motorcycle, minivan) ✅ Accommodation (13 nights in shared double rooms) ✅ Entrance Wat Phnom - Phnom Penh ✅ Entrance Killing Fields Musum - Phnom Penh ✅ Pepper plantation tour + tasting - Kampot ✅ Pepper plantation tour + tasting - Kampot ✅ 1 day scooter rental - Kampot ✅ Mekong kayak tour - Kratie (option 1) ✅ Snorkeling trip - Koh Rong (option 2) ✅ 1 day bicycle rental Angkor Wat - Siem Reap ✅ 60min massage + fish spa - Siem Reap ✅ Angkor Wat Putt (mini golf) - Siem Reap ✅ Bat cave visit & killing field - Battambang ✅ 1 day scooter rental - Battambang ✅ All entrance fees and tours marked with (included ✅) ✅ Bus from Battambang back to Phnom Penh or Bus to Bangkok ✅ 24/7 Customer Service and Support. ✅ Travel Insurance for Trip Mates coming from Austria and Germany. ABOUT YOUR TRIPLEADER: I've been exploring the world for 10 years now and have lost my heart to Thailand. In 2024, I moved from Germany to Bangkok together with my girlfriend Hannah. From here, I travel with other JoinMyTrip travelers as often as I can across Southeast Asia. _________________________________________ HOW DO WE TRAVEL? I am a fan of the simple life, live a vegetarian lifestyle and prefer a cheap and sustainable backpacking travel style. That means: - Backpack 🎒 instead of suitcase 🧳🚫 - Simple, clean rooms in local guesthouses 🏡 or hostels 🏠 - Good and cheap street food 🍲 - Beer 🍺 and cocktails 🍹 preferably at happy hour instead of fancy drinks at the rooftop bar 🍸 - Travel like the locals, slower but 100% authentic 🚂 - Sightseeing on your own 🛵 instead of organized tourist groups 🚐 _________________________________________ MY EXPECTATIONS: My ideal TripMates share my passion for simple and authentic travel. It's best if you're prepared to leave your comfort zone and embark on something unknown. As a reward, we like to treat ourselves to an extensive massage or a great mango or avocado shake. 😋 I try to keep the tour as flexible, spontaneous and affordable as possible so that everyone has the opportunity to join our trip through Cambodia. And if we like it somewhere, we'll stay longer and if you don't like it, we'll change our plans and move on. The trip plan is not set in stone, we decide together what we want to do! 🤗 ❗IMPORTANT: We are doing a BACKPACKING trip 😉 On this trip suitcases are really impractical 🧳🚫, please contact us before booking if you still want to travel with suitcases. _________________________________________

ℹ️ ACCOMODATION: On our trip we will stay in simple but clean and well-kept hostels 🏠 or family-run homestays 🏡. As a rule, 2 people always stay in a double room (separate beds, of course), sometimes with their own bathroom, sometimes with shared bathrooms. However, depending on availability and the size of the group, we may sometimes stay together in a quadruple room. In some accommodations, breakfast is also included. However, it is almost always possible to upgrade to a private room. The costs must then be paid on site (max. €20 extra per night, not included ❌). _________________________________________ _____________________________________________ ℹ️ Travel safely as a woman ♀ and LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈: I am aware that it can be a big hurdle to embark on a travel adventure with unknown male travel partners from different cultural backgrounds. However, to take away as many worries as possible right from the start and create more security, you can rely on the following measures: 1) Separate rooms 🚪 If no other woman is taking part in this trip alongside you, I will book you your own single room or bed in a dormitory of the same sex at your request. This means you always have a place to retreat to and a safe space, at no extra cost! 2) Woman to woman 🙋🏻‍♀️ On all my trips that start in Bangkok, there is the possibility that you can get to know my partner Hannah personally at our first dinner together. Should a situation arise during the trip where you feel uncomfortable and prefer to have a woman as your contact person, you can contact her or my co-tripleader Lama from JMT. 3) You always have a choice ⛔ If you realize during the first few days that the chemistry just isn't right or you feel uncomfortable in the presence of other tripmates and we can't improve the situation through a confidential conversation, you can cancel the trip as a last resort even after the trip has started. And without having to pay the full cost of the trip. I will refund you the full amount of your trip price in the local currency, minus - Costs already incurred for activities, accommodation and transportation - JoinMyTrip commission (10-15% of the trip price, JMT may refund you the fees afterwards) - Costs for future bookings that can no longer be canceled (e.g. flights, train/bus or accommodation) As a rule, you should receive at least 60-70% of your travel price back. Money should therefore not be a motive that prevents you from listening to your gut feeling! _____________________________________________ If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas, please send me a message and let's chat in advance to get to know each other better. :-)

The perfect introduction to backpacking and an unforgettable city-hopping trip The city hopping trip from Bangkok via Singapore and Melacca to Kuala Lumpur was the perfect introduction to backpacking for me - my first trip of this kind, and I really couldn't have wished for a better one. Timo struck just the right balance to introduce us to this form of travel without it becoming overwhelming or too extreme. Instead, there were exciting insights into low-budget traveling and frugalism - always with a friendly, relaxed vibe. The route was well thought out and varied - from vibrant cities to cultural gems like Melacca. What was particularly cool was that we didn't just see the typical tourist spots, but also discovered lots of insider tips off the beaten track. In Bangkok, we even got to meet Timo's wife, who showed us some real secret gems together with him - totally warm and open. Too bad she wasn't with us for the whole trip! Our group was also really cool - a colorful, relaxed group with whom it was simply fun to be on the road. The trip was well organized, but still had enough room for spontaneity and our own ideas. Conclusion: If you're looking for an authentic, well-structured and flexible trip, this is the right place for you. I will definitely be traveling with Timo again!

Timo is very supportive and detailed and provides ample of info and details especially on how to prepare for the trip prior to starting it. We were only four in the group including the group leader and that made it it easy to manage. However as 3 out of 4 members were German speaking, though we all knew English, personally as the the only Greek/English speaking person in the company I felt many times a bit of an outsider as many conversations were made in German, a language that regrettably I do not know.

Phnom Penh

Day 1-4
Our journey begins in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh. I fly from Bangkok to Phnom Penh in the afternoon. After checking in at the hotel, we all meet up and have our first dinner together at a lovely street food market in Phnom Penh. As international flights to Bangkok are often cheaper than to Phnom Penh, you can also fly to Bangkok the day before and we will travel to Cambodia together from here (flight not included ❌). In Phnom Penh, the following points are on the agenda, which are really worthwhile to get a first impression of Phnom Penh and Cambodia: - City tour on foot - Visit local markets and shopping opportunities - Visit to Wat Phnom (included ✅) - Visit to the Killing Fields memorials (Included ✅) - Visit the Phnom Penh Fantasy Park (free entry, but rides not included ❌) - Trying out the nightlife in Cambodia's capital (not included ❌) Optional: - Visit to the Khmer Rouge Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (Not included ❌) - Visit to the Royal Palace (Not included ❌)
2

Krong Kampot

Day 4-7
The small town of Kampot is located 3 hours south of Phnom Penh on a beautiful river that ends a few kilometers into the sea. In the 1950s, the region around Kampot was famous among French star chefs for the best pepper in the world. But there is also plenty to discover for non-gourmets around Kampot, such as the Bokor Hill National Park. A mountain plateau that lies approx. 1000m above sea level and attracts tourists and locals all year round with its cool temperatures. The following activities are on the agenda in Kampot: - Enjoy a cold beer on the river promenade at sunset (Included ✅) - Explore Bokor Hill National Park by scooter (included ✅) - Visit a pepper plantation including a tasting of different types of pepper (included ✅) Optional: - Kayak tour (Included ✅) - Cave visit (not included ❌)

Krong Kracheh

Day 7-10
Option 1: We can decide whether we would rather go back inland to a small Mekong island or stay longer on the coast. Unfortunately, the former backpacking strongholds on Cambodia's coast, Sihanoukville (now aka Chinaoukville) and the beautiful island of Koh Rong, are no longer quite as attractive as they used to be. The beautiful nature has unfortunately been severely impaired thanks to a government-ordered building boom of Chinese casinos and the construction of an international airport on the small island of Koh Rong. But there's still enough left for a few relaxing days on the beach. However, I would like to leave it up to you to decide what you would like to do more. The alternative to Koh Rong and Sihanoukville is the small town of Kratie. It originally served as a starting point for tours on and along the Mekong to observe the river dolphins that live here. Unfortunately, the population here has also declined sharply, but Kratie is increasingly becoming an insider tip for backpackers in Cambodia. Possibilities in Kratie: - Visit and bike tour on the Mekong island of Kaoh Trong (included ✅) - Kayak tour on the Mekong (included ✅) - Swimming in the Mekong - Observation of freshwater dolphins in the Mekong (included ✅) Optional: - 1-2h hammock relaxation on the Mekong (included ✅) - Excursion into the surrounding area by scooter or bike (included ✅)
4

Angkor Wat

Day 10-11
Now that we've recharged our batteries, it's on to the absolute highlight of any trip to Cambodia. Angkor Wat. We will stay here for 2-4 nights to have enough time to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site Angkor Wat ruins and the lively town of Siem Reap. It is up to you whether you would prefer to book a guided tour, e.g. at sunrise (admission and tour (optional) not included ❌) or explore the huge complex individually by bike (included ✅) or scooter (included ✅).
5

Krong Siem Reap

Day 11-13
After an exhausting day in Angkor Wat, we will treat ourselves to a cool drink in Siem Reap in the evening and treat our feet to a foot massage including fish spa (included ✅). The area surrounding Siem Reap also offers a number of optional excursions, such as the floating villages on Tonlé Sap Lake or the Phnom Kulen Mountains with fantastic waterfalls and the famous reclining Buddha (not included ❌). Plans for Siem Reap: - Day trip to Angkor Wat by bike or scooter (day ticket for 37$ included ✅) - Exploring Siem Reap - Mini golf tournament (included ✅) - 60 minutes foot and shoulder massage + fish spa (included ✅) - Immerse yourself in the wild nightlife on Pub Street (🍺 not included ❌) Optional: - Visit Floating Village Kompong Phluk (not included ❌) - Visit Phnom Kulen Mountain & Waterfalls (not included ❌)
6

Krong Battambang

Day 13-15
The last stop on our Cambodia backpacking trip takes us to Battambang. Like Kratie, the city is not yet on the (main) itinerary of most visitors to Cambodia. Yet this relaxed provincial town has a lot to offer in addition to its beautiful French colonial architecture. In addition to the gloomy history of the Killing Caves, there is a real natural spectacle with the never-ending swarm of over 3 million bats that fly out of the cave into the evening sky every night in search of food. Planned activities in and around Battambang: - Exploring the city on foot - Visit to the central market - Visit to the White Elephant Pagoda - One-day scooter rental (included ✅) - Visit Phnom Sampeau Mountain (included ✅) - Visit Killing Caves in Phnom-Sampeau (including ✅) - Observation of a swarm of bats (including ✅) Optional: - Visit temple ruins Wat Ek Phnom (included ✅) - Visit Phare Ponleu Selpak circus (not included ❌) - Train ride with "Bamboo Train" (not included ❌)

Bangkok

Day 15
From Battambang you can continue your journey (as a group or on your own) to Thailand, Laos or Vietnam, for example, or fly back home from Phnom Penh or Siem Reap. I am also happy to support you with tips and advice on other travel destinations :) I will take the minivan from Battambang back to Bangkok (8h), you are welcome to accompany me (already included in the tour price ✅) and we can add another day in Bangkok. :) If you have a return flight from Phnom Penh, you can take the train or one of the many buses from Battambang to Phonm Penh (already included in the tour price ✅).
