Tanjung Puting National Park is a national park in Indonesia located in the southeast part of West Kotawaringin Regency in the Indonesian province of Central Kalimantan. The nearest main town is the capital of the Regency, Pangkalan Bun. The park is famous for its orangutan conservation. We will stay overnight on a traditional boat called Kelotok, and cruise through the Sekonyer River to spot the Orangutan of Borneo. Also, a chance to plant a tree before leaving Tanjung Puting National Park. Learn about the Dayak Culture during our stay in one of the Dayaknese villages.

About me: I am Tracy. I am Indonesian, lived in Singapore for a quiet number of years, and now return to my home country. I am currently based in Jakarta. I am a Graphic Designer by profession although I have been doing fewer design tasks lately and instead, getting more involved in the tourism industry. I have been travelling around Indonesia since late 2013 and there are still many places on my list that I haven't been to yet. I enjoy hiking, snorkelling, diving, and being close to nature. I claim myself as a happy diver and am still working to be a better diver. I believe that taking care of the environment is equally important as enjoying it. This trip is not a trip with luxury facilities as we will be visiting a national park and also a local village to learn their way of life. There will be a ranger who will guide us - for the do(s) and don't(s).

Accommodation: While we are in Tanjung Puting National Park, we will stay overnight on a traditional wooden motorized boat during the trip. The main space of the boat is used as a gathering and dining area in the daytime, moving from one spot to another, as a sleeping area in the nighttime. We will sleep on a mattress with a mosquito net. Everything will be set up by the boat crew. No AC and only a basic toilet facility are available on the boat. While we are in the Dayak Village, we will be staying at the local house in the village with basic facilities. Are you ready to join my adventure? Contact me in the Q&A in case something is unclear. See you soon!

LOPUS VILLAGE (B,L,D) Today, we will explore deeply about the Dayak culture! We will start from Rumah Betang, a traditional house of Dayak where some of the walls are made from tree bark. After that, we will also see the tuak-making process. Tuak is a nice wine that ferments sweet rice with herbs and spices. It is very important for Dayak and is often seen in ceremonies. Tuak is also used as a welcoming drink. The next process of tuak is Arak, which has a higher alcohol content – like vodka or spirits. Next is the handicraft class. Dayak is well-known for making handicrafts such as rattan weaving for various equipment and accessories. We will learn rattan weaving and kapuak, an old fabric made from tree bark. The tree is peeled, and the bark is hit and smeared until soft to obtain a sheet of kapuak. If we still have time, we can enjoy the walk across the river to Ladang, an old agroforestry. It is incredible how the villagers can secure food for their families using basic methods. They still have rice stored for over 40 years.
