Windhoek
Tag 1-2
After the morning arriving at Windhoek International Airport, we will collect our rental car and drive to our accommodation in town. Depending on the arrival time, we either have time for a walk around the City or we have dinner and immediately go to rest after a long flight.
2
Sesriem
Tag 2-4
After breakfast, we will stop by the supermarket to buy supplies of food. Then we leave Windhoek and drive through the Khomas Highland in a south-westerly direction towards the Namib Desert. Passing through beautiful landscapes, we finally reach our camp, home for the next two nights, close to Sesriem. We will enjoy the picturesque desert landscapes and at the end of the day cook a delicious dinner.
3
Deadvlei
Tag 4
Let’s try to start the day as early as possible to see the early morning sun creating beautiful shadows on the enormous dunes of Sossusvlei. Gates to the park open at sunrise. We’ll climb one of the famous dunes such as Dune 45 or Big Daddy for some early morning exercise. It is a breathtaking experience seeing the sea of sand around you. Also, we will visit Deadvlei, a very photogenic spot of ancient dead trees. Thereafter we drive to the Sesriem Canyon where we can also do short hikes. After an adventurous day of exploring, we leave the park in the afternoon and return to the Camp.
4
Swakopmund
Tag 4-6
Today’s journey on gravel roads takes us to the coastal town of Swakopmund where we can find beautiful pieces of colonial architecture. Swakopmund is also a base for adventure activities in the area – a dolphin cruise in Walvis Bay, a day trip into the desert, and to the seal colony at Cape Cross. We will spend two nights here.
5
Walvis Bay
Tag 6
Early wake-up and we leave the town of Walvis Bay. Here we change to kayaks and head towards Pelican Point, in order to take a selfie with the seals, which will jump right into your kayaks! And also, we will see flocks of pelicans and dolphins. We return to the port, transfer to local jeeps and go to Sandwich Harbor together with the driver-guides. This place is unique in that the ocean meets the sand dunes here. We will drive along the coast, "fly" on the dunes, have a snack with an ocean view, and return to the city.
6
Mount Erongo
Tag 6-7
After breakfast, we leave Swakopmund and travel inland. We will see the Spitzkoppe, one of Namibia’s most recognizable landmarks. Go for a walk and explore the imposing granite rock formations. Today’s destination will be the campsite in the Erongo Mountains. Lean back and enjoy the warm surrounding atmosphere.
7
Twyfelfontein campsite
Tag 7-8
After breakfast, we will visit the living museum to get to know the culture and life of the Damara tribe. After that, we move to the Twyfelfontein valley, in order to see the ancient rock paintings of the Bushmen. In the afternoon, we go in search of local endemics - desert elephants. Unlike their counterparts, local elephants have adapted to survive in desert conditions. Eating moisture-laden vegetation growing in riverbeds, they can go without drinking water for up to five days. Back at camp, lean back, and let’s round off the day at the crackling campfire.
8
Etosha National Park
Tag 8-11
After breakfast, we leave for Etosha National Park. One of the largest national parks in Namibia. It is located on the northwestern edge of the Kalahari desert in the area occupied by the Etosha salt pan and the adjacent savannas. We check in at our campsite, set up our tents, get camping equipment and rest after a long move. Tomorrow we will need a lot of energy, as we will spend the whole day tomorrow on safari. During these two days, we will spend most of our time game viewing around the waterholes where elephants, giraffes, different species of antelope, and birds come to drink. With a bit of luck, we might even be able to spot lions and rhinos.
9
Waterberg
Tag 11-12
Today’s journey will take us past a deep lake and a meteorite. Just outside Tsumeb, you can turn off to visit the bright blue Lake Otjikoto. Next on today’s list is the 60-ton Hoba Meteorite; at roughly 3×3 meters, it is the largest meteorite in the world. Your last stop in the campsite at the foot of the Waterberg Plateau. The Waterberg is a massive red plateau rising 200 meters above the surrounding plains. The variety of microclimates – mountain, valley, and plains – accommodates a variety of vegetation ranging from massive fig trees to ferns and acacia trees.
10
Windhoek
Tag 12-13
Today we will continue south towards Windhoek. On our way, we will want to stop at the craft market in Okahandja. Here we can haggle and bargain for wood carvings, beaded jewelry, baskets, and other crafts. We check in and relax in a comfortable hotel after a busy program, and in the evening we gather for a farewell dinner in a local restaurant.
11
Windhoek
Tag 13
Today is the last morning here, which we can spend in the city. Depending on when everyone has the flights, we will head to the airport to catch a flight back home. This is the end of our African adventure but the memories of an unforgettable time will always remain with us.
