Guided trip
This trip offers the perfect blend of urban excitement and natural tranquility. You'll get to feel the dynamic energy of Washington, D.C., exploring historical monuments and world-renowned museums at the National Mall over the first few days. Afterwards, we will unwind in the serene beauty of Shenandoah National Park. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or simply someone who enjoys the beauty of the season, this trip has something for everyone. Since there are so many wonderful museums in DC, we will choose where we go based on interest with the option to explore independently on Saturday if you prefer. This trip is designed to offer a rich, diverse experience that showcases the best of the region. From the cultural and historical treasures of Washington, D.C., to the peaceful, vibrant landscapes of Shenandoah in the fall, it’s a journey that promises unforgettable memories.

I currently live in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where I work as a barista and spend my free time exploring the surrounding mountains. I have lived in a few different countries over the past several years and never cease to be amazed by the wonderful places there are to explore and beautiful people to meet. This fall I will be heading to the east coast for a little while to visit family and would love to have you join me to get to know one of my favourite cities in the US and spend some time in nature afterwards.

We will most likely be staying at the Generator Hostel in DC. Depending on the number of people we will either have a room with 4 single beds just for us, or beds in a shared dormitory. Rooms will be mixed gender but everyone will have their own bed. Option for a single private room for an additional cost if you prefer.

Washington

Day 1-3
If possible, arrive to Washington D.C. Friday evening. We will meet for breakfast as a group on Saturday morning to get to know each other and talk about plans for the days ahead. These first few days in Washington, D.C., we will explore the National Mall visiting iconic landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and various war memorials. We will visit the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and the National Air and Space Museum. Take a peaceful walk around the Tidal Basin to see the Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorials and see the Capitol and the White House. There will be an option to do a half-day trip to old town Alexandria and Mt. Vernon (George Washington's estate).
2

Great Falls Park

Day 3
After renting a car, our first stop for the afternoon will be Great Falls Park. Just outside DC, this park offers great views of the Potomac River and a series of waterfalls. We will do a short walk along the river to see the sights and fall colors in the area. We will then continue our journey onwards towards Shenandoah, about two hours away.
3

Shenandoah National Park

Day 3-5
Tuesday we will start early and have a full day to drive along Skyline Drive and experience the fall foliage near its peak. We will make plenty of stops along the way to do some hikes taking us to some of the most beautiful overlooks and panoramic vistas in the park. There will be time to relax and take in the sights. If everyone is interested, there is also the option to visit and tour Monticello. Wednesday we will take it easy in the morning and start to head back to DC. If you fly out on Wednesday, please plan to leave in the evening to ensure you make it on time. If you plan to spend some extra days in the city, I am happy to give you recommendations.
