Experience the thrill of conquering Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, with its awe-inspiring trails through cloud-ringed slopes, alpine forests, and elephant-inhabited meadows. Immerse yourself in the local culture by enjoying a beer at the historic Old Railway Station and witnessing the deep blue hues of Lake Chala. Engage with the vibrant Maasai community through traditional dance ceremonies. Make the most of your stay by arranging a transfer to Moshi or Marangu from Arusha, and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at Keys Hotel. Embark on an unforgettable adventure filled with natural beauty, cultural immersion, and the majesty of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Mandara Huts

Day 2-3
Marangu route This is the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations in lieu of camping. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Your first day on Kilimanjaro starts with the transfer from your hotel to Marangu gate, the registration formalities, an introduction to your guides, the packing of all equipment and distributing it among the porters. Expect to linger at the gate for an hour or two before you get going. The first day on the Marangu Route leads through rain forest. (You know why it's called rain forest, right? ALWAYS carry your rain gear in your day pack!) Actually, montane forest is the correct name for this climate zone and vegetation. The wide and well formed gravel path is fairly steep and leads steadily uphill, but the forest is so pretty that you don't mind. For a while the path follows a little stream and it passes a couple of picturesque little waterfalls. You'll probably have lunch at the Kisamboni picnic area, which marks half way. It should take about an hour and a half to get there. And it is about another hour and a half from here to the Mandara Huts. As you near the huts you will notice the vegetation change. You are about to enter the next climate and vegetation zone—the alpine heath and moorland. The first heathers appear, but most noticeable is the lichen dangling from all the trees and shrubs, leading to the name "bearded forest" that you may have seen under some Kilimanjaro pictures. Soon you'll arrive at the Mandara Huts, a group of wooden huts in a forest clearing. If you do have time and energy left you can take a little side trip to the Maundi Crater. It takes about 15 minutes and, weather permitting, you will be rewarded with good views to Mawenzi. You may also spot blue monkeys (they have become very used to people), and with a bit of luck even black and white colobus monkeys.
3

Horombo Huts

Day 3-4
Day 2: Mandara Huts – Horombo Huts To start off day 2, you will explore the final stretch of woodland as the massive stretch of moorland begins to open up right in front of your eyes. On your walk, you can appreciate the jagged peaks of Mawenzi that ascend up towards the skies of Africa. It is common for people to experience the onset of altitude sickness at these heights. It is important to pay attention to how you feel and communicate with your guide at the first and slightest indication of illness. After reaching the Horombo Huts, you will have time to unpack and experience the view of Kibo before dinner. Hiking: 5-7 hours Overnight Altitude: ~12,205 Habitat: Heath/Moorland Stay and overnight at Horombo hut
4

Horombo Huts

Day 4-5
Day 3; Acclimatization Day You will spend an extra day at the Horombo Huts to allow your body to acclimate to the increasingly high altitude. You must stay at camp and relax if you are showing any signs of illness or are feeling especially tired. However, if you feel well-acclimated to the altitude, then you are free to walk up to Mawenzi Hut and admire the incredible view of Kibo and Mawenzi. Keep a steady pace and you walk the route and enjoy the magnificent landscape. Otherwise, you can take a journey to the remarkable Zebra Rocks. This requires a climb of 310 metres. Hiking: 1-2 hours Overnight Altitude: ~14,400 Habitat: Heath/Moorland
5

Horombo Huts

Day 5-6
Day 4: Horombo Huts – Kibo Huts On day 4, you will walk through varied and strikingly picturesque landscapes. To begin, you will continue across the heath as it slowly turns into the parched, desolate highlands between Mawenzi and Kibo. The scenery here is littered with huge and small volcanic rocks, acting as a testament to the volcanic activity of years past. The final stretch to the Kibo Huts is very steep and physically challenging. Once you arrive at the Kibo Huts, it is time to organize your equipment and warm clothes for tomorrow’s journey to the peak. To prevent freezing, keep any water your plan on bringing in a thermos. Get to bed early, as the next day’s trek requires a full night’s sleep worth of energy. You are getting ready to take on Kilimanjaro’s most ultimate challenge! Hiking: 5-7 Hours Overnight Altitude: ~15,430 Habitat: Alpine Desert
6

Kibo Huts

Day 6
Day 5: Kibo Huts – Gilman’s Point – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Huts Rise in the midnight hour to a nourishing meal before embarking on the challenging nighttime hike. Many consider the rocky terrain the toughest segment of the climb. The goal is to reach Gilman’s Point just as dawn approaches, granting you a spectacular view. From there, follow the crater's edge towards Uhuru, the pinnacle of Kibo and the highest point of Kilimanjaro, with a gradual ascent. Depending on the season, you may encounter snow on the final stretch to Uhuru Peak, standing tall at 5,895 meters. Revel in this triumph as you admire the breathtaking panorama and capture a memorable photo at the Uhuru Peak Sign. As you retrace your steps towards the Kibo Huts, time will fly by swiftly. Take a well-deserved break at the Kibo Huts for a much-needed lunch before continuing to the Horombo Huts. Here, you can finally indulge in a restful night's sleep, replenishing your energy for the journey ahead. Hiking: 4-5 Hours Overnight Altitude: Approximately 12,205 meters
