special No-Flight / bus and train journey
This trip will be an adventure of a kind mixed with trains and buses. We will meet in Athens, go to Thessaloniki by train. From Thessaloniki we will have bus trips to Skopje (MKD), Belgrad (SRB) and Zagreb (CRO) during the day. From Zagreb we will take the direct night train that goes back to my home country Austria (it runs until Zurich btw). Before this trip starts I will be in Iraklion, Crete and will take the Ferry to Athens. So I am open for activities already before in case you want to start from there.

I am Greg, my friends call me travelGreg as I travel a lot. I work for travel companies as a freelancer but also love traveling myself of course. Within Europe I mainly use trains as I like the principle of "slow traveling". I am an outgoing person, always up for a beer and good conversations. I like to spend evenings in a bar or common areas as I believe conversations are much more valuable than clubbing (which I hate by the way). The best conversations are the funny ones which bring people together and are often useless :-) Days with me won't be packed with activities as I like time to chill every now and then, visit a Café and hang out before making plans for the next big thing. I'd love to hear from you, what your plans are and how you would like to travel. I think we can work something out together if parts of the plan are not a hundred percent what you expected!

I will take your privacy serious, so just let me know and I will work out a private room for you. When it makes sense, I also don't mind sharing a room, but probably not throughout the whole trip. If you need private washing facilities, please also let me know. Expect middle-budget accommodation. Please let me know what your preferences are, I am flexible! What I know from experience is to use high-class hostels or good B&Bs with open common areas where people meet. Any questions about the trip? You can let me know in the Q&A section!

Trip Itinerary
1

Athens

Day 1-2
Acropolis and Parthenon: Visit the iconic ancient site with stunning views over the city. Plaka District: I know an awesome Fish Restaurant there which has decent prices and I want to visit again. We will also stroll through its narrow streets and enjoy other traditional Greek cuisine. Optional: National Archaeological Museum: Dive into Greek history and culture.
2

Thessaloniki

Day 2-3
White Tower: Explore this historic landmark with panoramic views. Aristotelous Square: Relax in one of the cafés and soak up the atmosphere. Ano Poli (Upper Town): Discover the old town with its Byzantine churches. Ladadika District: Experience vibrant nightlife and taste local delicacies.
3

Skopje

Day 3-4
Macedonia Square: Admire the central square with its grand statues and fountains. Stone Bridge: Walk across this historic bridge and explore the Old Bazaar. Matka Canyon: Take a boat trip or hike through this spectacular natural wonder. Millennium Cross: Enjoy the view from Mount Vodno.
4

Belgrade

Day 4-6
Kalemegdan Fortress: Explore the historic fortress overlooking the Danube. Skadarlija: This charming bohemian quarter resembles Montmartre in Paris and is great for an evening out. Ada Ciganlija: Relax at “Belgrade’s Sea” or try water sports. Savamala District: Discover urban art and trendy bars.
5

Zagreb

Day 6-8
Upper Town (Gornji Grad): Visit the Cathedral and St. Mark’s Church. Dolac Market: Experience the local market with fresh produce and souvenirs. Museum of Broken Relationships: A unique and emotional museum. Maksimir Park: Enjoy nature and visit the Zagreb Zoo.
6

Innsbruck

Day 8
You will have me as a local guide here. I grew up in this city and I know all the hidden gems in the mountain capital of Austria. Old Town and Golden Roof: Explore the city’s landmark and the picturesque old town. Nordkette Cable Car: Ride up into the Alps for hiking or skiing. It is quite pricey, but I have an alternative to go high up to have a good view, too :-) Ambras Castle: Discover the collections and beautiful gardens. Bergisel Ski Jump: Visit the iconic ski jump and enjoy panoramic views.
7

Zürich

Day 8
This will be an optional stop without guidance as i will stay in Innsbruck after this trip. The train will go there directly that is why I added this stop without any nights. It is a brilliant city with connections to all neighboring countries (north and west mainly)
