Slide 3 of 3
The beginning of our journey. Meeting point is the campsite "Ferdaous" in Marrakech. If you arrive by plane, it is best to take a cab to the campsite.
The round trip has a length of about 1900 kilometers. This corresponds to an average driving distance of less than 100 kilometers per day. On site we will have to adjust this individually. For example, on the first leg from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou we will have to drive about 180 km. (Motorcycles and off-road vehicles drive here alternatively over the P1506 to Ait Ben Haddou). Accordingly, you can take it easy the next day.

Aït Benhaddou

Next stop in the area around Taouz. This is where the real dirt roads begin.
Most travelers turn around here and head west on the normal roads.
The tracks from Taouz to Mhamid are very demanding and not for people without desert experience. From Ramlia there is no official track to Mhamid. We will work here with American air navigation maps as well as with IGN maps, which show the terrain profile well. How the exact route to Mahmid will look like, we can only say on the spot.
From Taouz to Mhamid it is about 230 km. It is quite possible that we will be maneuvered north by the military because of the disputed border between Morocco and Algeria. Of course, we will have to comply with this.

Mhamid
Day 10-12

Slide 2 of 2
From Mhamid we continue west through Lake Iriki past the Madouar Shrir table mountain.
We pass through Erg Chegaga with plenty of dunes. If necessary, we can make a detour to Foum Zguid. However, this is not planned.
We continue west until we reach Akka.

Akka
Day 12-13
Slide 1 of 1
Here, in any case, the refueling of fuel and water is foreseen. From Akka it goes as soon as possible again on the track to continue to follow the Qued Draa.
In the next days we will drive about 450 kilometers comfortably towards the Atlantic coast to reach the village of El Ouatia (formerly Tan Tan Plage).

El Ouatia
Day 13-14

After that, we head north along the Atlantic coast.
With a little luck, the Qued Noun carries water and we enjoy some swimming pools.

Complexe Touristique Bou Jerif
Day 14-16
Slide 1 of 1
We then follow the Qued in an easterly direction and come across the legendary Fort Bou Jerif. Even if the campsite there no longer has the flair of the former times, a detour there is worthwhile.
Afterwards we drive again towards the coast and then further north.
13
Tassila
Day 16-18
Slide 1 of 1
At Tassila we turn towards the coast and find a wonderful bathing bay. We discovered this by chance on a trip in 2006.
14
Ait Melloul
Day 18-19
Slide 1 of 1
We continue in the direction of Ait Melloul. From there on regular roads in the direction of Marrakech. Planned is the more beautiful route via Ouirgane.
