Trip Itinerary
1
Quedlinburg
Day 1
Starting early on Saturday morning from Berlin Central Station (meeting at 5:50 am), we meet with the rest of the group and take a train down to Quedlinburg via Magdeburg from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to start our journey by exploring this UNESCO heritage medieval village. Walk through the UNESCO World Heritage Site that features over 2000 half-timbered houses and villas of the Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau periods telling the story of the history and culture of bygone eras.
2
Wernigerode
Day 1-2
We then move on to Wernigerode from Quedlinburg also referred to as the “Pearl of the Harz” where we would be staying for the night. About Wernigerode - Stunning medieval town with splendid medieval Wernigerode hilltop castle (impressively reconstructed in the 19th century) overlooking down streets filled with timber-framed houses. We would also be visiting the Wildpark Christianental to marvel at many animals native to Germany in large open-air enclosures, which you would otherwise only rarely or never see in the forests.
3
Brocken
Day 2
The second day involves a trek to the Brocken peak standing at 1,141 meters above sea level making it the highest mountain in Northern Germany. Mt. Brocken is often shrouded in mist, which contributes to its mysterious charm. Storms have always raged around the isolated summit plateau and clouds of fog give Mt. Brocken a mystical glow. Optical illusions such as the “Brocken Ghost“ may give you a scare, but don’t worry, it’s probably just your shadow cast upon the fog… or is it? After all, this was the favourite haunt (pun intended) of the witches of yore. Even today you can meet witches, devils and other mythical figures here. We are not kidding!

Wernigerode Hbf
Day 2
We catch the historic Harz Steam Railway from the top of Brocken. The sound of the engine's whistle, smoke drifting past the window and the smell of a real steam train evoke memories of a bygone age. Settle back, relax in the comfortable historic carriages and enjoy train travel as it should be done. We arrive in Wernigerode just before 7pm and then head off to pick up our bags and then catch the train back to Berlin via Magdeburg at 7:40pm that arrives in Berlin just before 11pm on Sunday to finish our Magical Trip to Harz Mountains.
