Trip Itinerary
1
Las Vegas
Day 1-2
Everyone should plan to arrive at some point on Wednesday. Depending on arrival times, we will organize either a dinner together, or a short outing for a drink in the evening. During this time we can all get to know each other better and discuss plans and expectations for the week.
2
Red Rock Canyon
Day 2-3
Thursday morning, we will start the day early with some breakfast and get on the road as soon as possible. Our first stop will be Red Rock Canyon. Here we will do a scenic drive and a short hike or two. After visiting this state park, we will continue on our way to the ghost town of Rhyolite just outside of Death Valley National Park. Once considered a gold-mining boomtown, we will see what remains of the town and make a short stop at the Goldwell Open Air Museum. Depending on timing, we will either see sunset at the national park or head straight to our accomodation in Beatty.
3
Death Valley National Park
Day 3
Starting at sunrise, we will have one full day to explore some highlights of the hottest, driest, and lowest (located below sea level) national parks in the United States. It is a land of extremes, and despite being spring the temperatures can still get quite high here. We will plan our activities accordingly. Some highlights of the park include Badwater Basin, Zabriskie Point, Artist's Drive, and the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. After a full day at the park, we will head over to Boulder City where we will spend the night.
4
Hoover Dam
Day 3-4
Arriving to Boulder City in the evening, we will be well situated to wake up early and visit Hoover Dam the following morning. At the time of completion in 1935, this was the largest dam in the world. We will participate in a guided tour leading us through the original construction tunnels and allowing us to see the generators from up close. After learning more and admiring this work of engineering, we will continue our trip to the Valley of Fire State Park where we will spend the second half of the day. Here we will one again see some of the main sites and do a short hike or two before heading to Vegas in the evening to return the rental car.
5
Las Vegas
Day 4-6
After three adventure-filled days of activity and exploration, we have one final evening in Vegas as a group. We will go out to dinner as a group or see a show. On Sunday, depending what time you travel home, there is a lot of flexibility and you can enjoy the day however you please. Whether that involves lounging by the pool or exploring the strip that is up to you. In the evening, we will go out to dinner as a group and reflect on the trip. Sunday will be the official last day of the trip, but you are free to stay in Las Vegas as long as you want. I am happy to give recommendations to those looking for where to go next.
