Trip Itinerary
1
Airlie Beach
Day 1-2
Accommodation: Airlie Beach (apartment or home) Night 1 of 3 Our first day. You can either fly into Mackay airport or Proserpine airport. I will be leaving Mackay early morning to travel to Airlie Beach so can pick you up along the way. Once we have all checked into our accomodation, we can explore the beachside town of Airlie Beach. Cute little boutiques, a swim in the lagoon, stroll along the beautiful sandy beaches, even some cocktails in a cute little bar, this will be a flexible afternoon. There is a beautiful walk along the boardwalk which you walk, ride or scoot down. PAID + ORGANISED: a welcome dinner by the beach. I will supply a simple Aussie style BBQ dinner where we can meet, chat and share our travel stories. We can watch the sunset as we get to know each other.
2
Whitehaven Beach
Day 2-3
Accommodation: Airlie Beach (apartment or home) Night 2 of 3 You can not come to Airlie Beach and not visit Australia most famous beach: Whitehaven. I have booked and paid for a wonderful all day tour with a local tour company that showcases all the best parts of the Whitsundays + the Great Barrier Reef. ALL DAY TOUR INCLUDES: - 2 hours on the iconic Whitehaven Beach - Guided bush walk to Hill Inlet Lookout with a knowledgeable crew member. - Snorkel two different locations on the fringing Great Barrier Reef - A local supplier with qualified chefs caters for lunch and snacks - 2021 Gold winner for the best “Adventure Tourism” Business in Australia! We will be exhausted from our adventure, so let's do a group cook up back at our accommodation, or you can venture out to try some local restaurants and bars.
3
Cedar Creek Falls
Day 3-4
Accommodation: Airlie Beach (apartment or home) Night 3 of 3 Saturday morning sees Airlie Beach streets come alive with markets. Local produce, handicrafts and unique gifts are all on offer. We can spend a morning strolling the markets or even have a quick swim in the local lagoon. Before the day becomes too hot, we can take the small drive to Cedar Creek Falls to explore the beautiful waterfall and refreshing water, we can pack a shared lunch to share by the waterhole. As a group we can decide how to spend our afternoon: - Visit different beaches - Get our steps up with a hike to Honey Eater lookout - Drinks and outdoor board games at a popular hangout by the beach (think large size chess, table pool etc) We can see where the afternoon and night takes us as a group
4
Mackay
Day 4-5
Accommodation: Mackay. Night 1 of 3 After checking out of our Airlie Beach accommodation, we will make our way south to our 2nd location, Mackay. While not as well known and Airlie Beach, it is a wonderful base town for our next adventures! BOOKED AND PAID: On our trip to Mackay (2.5hrs) we will stop in at Bredl Wild Farm. This is a great way to get close and personal to some beautiful Australian wildlife such as kangaroos, koalas and our every friendly crocodiles (ha)! This family run farm runs tours during the day to really educate and show visitors all about our special animals friends. From here we can decide on a fun place for lunch. Maybe fish and chips in another sleepy beach town, or a hardy meal at a local pub! We will then make our way to check into our shared accommodation in Mackay. We could hire bikes and follow one of the trails along the Pioneer River, check out the amazing 'wake boarding' facilities or stroll along one of the many quiet beaches! This night we can have some quiet time to ourselves, do a group cook up or travel to surrounding area for dinner.
5
Cape Hillsborough
Day 5-6
Accommodation: Mackay. Night 2 of 3 Possible highlight of your trip might be today! But to be apart of it, you need to wake before sunrise. Each morning, the local kangaroos make their way down to the beach to feed on the seeds that have washed up the night before. As quickly as they arrive, they leave. A quick breakfast, posing for the keen visitors and off they hop! To arrive by sunrise, we will need to wake early and make the 45min drive to the special location. From here we can make our way inland to the rainforest of Queensland. On the way (1.5hrs) we will cross over many bridges with stunning rock edged streams, which we can easily stop at for photos and exploring. From here, we will snake our way up the windy mountain side to Eungella National Park. We will want to head to the Platypus viewing area around 9-10am as this is when we are most likely to see these shy and quiet animals. Being wild animals, seeing them is not promised but we certainly will try! Eungella is filled with small and large hikes. We can break into groups, or go off on our own to explore the amazing rainforests tracks and treks. There is also a business running fly fox adventures (10:30am or 1pm), those who wish to do this can book in for this! Maybe we could meet back at the beautiful Chalete for lunch, which showcases the most amazing view of the entire Pioneer Valley. It's very picturesque. On the way back to Mackay, we will stop in at a beautiful waterfall at Finch Hatton Gorge. A quick dip in its fresh water will be perfect. After such a big day, we can decide how to spend our night. Try one of the many amazing restaurants or a quiet night in!
6
Mackay
Day 6-7
Accommodation: Mackay. Night 3 of 3 As our last full day together, I am going to leave this free from anything booked. Is there something you wish you could tick off your Aussie bucket list? Want to go exploring in an area we are all interested in? Do you want to experience more how we live day to day? Mackay is where I live so I am happy to take us around to explore and help you get the most of your time here. Some ideas could be: - I live on a farm so I am happy to show you around what a working cane farm looks like! - A tour of a local distillery - Lunch at the harbour to see all the large ships come into the port - Learn about the mining industry (one of our largest industries here) - Head to the cool air-conditioning shops or cinemas - Visit some beaches and lookouts (watch out for dolphins and turtles) For our last dinner together (insert sad face) we can venture out and enjoy a dinner together!
7
Mackay
Day 7
Last day of tour! For those flying, Mackay will be where you need to book your flights out. From here you can fly to Cairns or Brisbane, which can connect you with most other places in Australia or back home! For those who want to explore the outback, I suggest getting a bus out to Emerald or Longreach. This is where I grew up and your will really experience the real Australia, not just capital cities and beaches! For those who have a late flight or want to explore this area a little, I am happy to create a little itinerary for you! If you feel you haven't experienced something you really wanted to, I can help you out!
