You've likely seen an Instagram feed full of friends sailing around Croatia in the summer, but have you ever thought about experiencing the country during autumn? If smaller crowds, comfortable temperatures and stunning foliage sound appealing to you, then this could be the trip you've been looking for! Join my trip and explore all that Zagreb and Plitvice Lakes National Park have to offer.

About me! I'm Bri, a 25-year old American. I've been to 16 European countries to date. I love exploring hidden gems and destinations during their shoulder seasons. Croatia has been on my list for a while, but I'm not super into the summer party scene. I'd rather take a deep dive into Croatia's culture and explore the surrounding natural wonders during the off season.

Details about the accommodation: We will be staying in a shared dorm room in a well-rated hostel. We will likely be in a multi-bed dorm room that will be mostly just our group, with the potential to have one or two bunkmates who are not part of our group depending on the size of the dorm room. A private room may be possible, however it will add to the price of your trip.

Trip Itinerary
1

Zagreb

Day 1-3
We'll meet in the afternoon or evening at our accommodation in Zagreb. Depending on what time everyone arrives, we can start exploring the city and have a nice dinner together. On our first full day in the city we will grab some breakfast and then start the morning with a free walking tour - the best way to get a lay of the land and learn interesting historical and cultural facts about Zagreb! We'll grab lunch, and then we can explore either the Lower Town or the Upper Town. Depending on weather, we can also visit the Museum of Broken Relationships (optional).
2

Plitvice Lakes National Park

Day 3-4
On day 3 we will join an organized tour to the beautiful Plitvice Lakes National Park. We will ride in a van for approximately 2 hours from Zagreb to the national park in the morning. During the day we will hike, take beautiful photos at the waterfalls, visit the fairytale village of Rastoke and see its 17th-century watermills, and take a boat ride (weather-permitting). At the end of the day we will ride back to Zagreb and have dinner in the city.

Zagreb

Day 4-5
On our last full day in Zagreb we will explore more of the city such as The Museum of Broken Relationships (optional, if we did not visit on the first day), stroll down Strossmayer Promenade which overlooks the city, walk through Oktogon, and duck underground into Grič Tunnel. We can also return to places we saw on our walking tour that we would like to spend more time at like Zagreb Cathedral. If we have time we may also visit Mirogoj cemetery which is a bit outside of the city center. In the evening we will have one last dinner altogether before we all part ways the next day.

Zagreb

Day 5
Time to say goodbye ): If there is time we can all grab one last breakfast together in the morning. You can book your flight/train/bus for anytime on the 31st and if you need to hang around after we check out of the hostel, you can leave your bags with the hostel until it's time for you to head to the airport or train station.
