special Discover with a local
Welcome to Rhodes! The Grand Master in the Dodecanese. At the same time cosmopolitan and traditional, timeless and modern, simple and spectacular – Rhodes is an island in Greece that has so many faces and you’ll want to discover them all. Rhodes is a beautiful mosaic of experiences: the island of knights and the mythical Colossus of Rhodes, where Byzantines, Greeks, Venetians and Turks all left something to remember them by. Alongside luxury resorts are villages where women still bake bread in an outdoor wood-fired oven. The landscape of this Dodecanese island has so much eye-catching beauty that it’s no wonder Rhodes is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece. This is where vast sandy beaches, clear waters, castles and ancient civilizations effortlessly mix with gourmet restaurants and traditional tavernas serving local delicacies. The medieval Old Town, port of Mandraki, Acropolis of Lindos, ancient cities of Kamiros and Ialysos, Valley of the Butterflies… Rhodes has so many highlights, that one visit is never enough. One of the best-preserved medieval settlements in the world, the Old Town of Rhodes has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Protected inside its imposing walls – a boundary between past and present – is the island’s coat of arms. Every stone tells a story. Ancient statues, marble crests, fountains, mosques and hammams, the Clock Tower with its breathtaking view of the Aegean… a rich heritage left behind by past civilisations. Beach lovers will be left fully satisfied with the shores of Rhodes. Topping the list are Kiotari, Kallithea, Agathi, Apolakkia, Kolymbia, Anthony Quinn Beach, Lardos, Afandou with its golf course, Traounou with its motocross tracks, Trianda Tsabika. All wonderful, with sand, clear water and water sports. Windsurfers flock to Prasonissi, a green island to the south of Rhodes. And lastly, although no traces of the statue remain, it is said that the Colossus of Rhodes (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) once stood in place of the statues of deer now found at the harbour. According to the stories, ships sailed beneath its giant legs and every night the passage was closed with an enormous chain. These and many more reasons are enough to visit one of the top destination island in Greece! Join my trip and come to explore and live as a local Rhodian. Last but not least, September is the best time to visit the island. Still very good weather but not so hot like July and August.

Rhodes International Airport Diagoras

Day 1-2
Here is where you will book your flight. This is the international airport of Rhodes. As soon as you arrive here, we will go to the hostel to leave the things, relax, have some food, drinks and get to know each other. Maybe we will have a quick walk around to see the town. For as long is the trip, we will stay at the hostel. Everything is very reachable with car so it’s easy to move around. Let me know what time you book the flight so I can arrange a big car for all of us!

Kallithea Springs

Day 2-3
Next morning, we pack our backpacks and we’re heading south. First stop will be Kallithea Springs. It is an ideal place to spend the day, and experience the unique way in which nature, architecture and history have intermingled through the ages. Kallithea Springs or Kallithea Therme is perhaps one of the most beautiful locations on Rhodes island. The recently renovated premises of Kallithea Springs constitute the ultimate destination of exploration for travelers. Crystal clear blue waters make swimming and diving an absolute pleasure in the summer heat. Kallithea waters have an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius during the summer months. The gardens provide spacious areas filled with shade and unique air quality. There is also an in-house cafeteria placed on the beachfront. Relax and watch the magnificent sunset accompanied by the sounds of popular lounge music. Since Kallithea Springs’ recent renovation, the monument has become an exceedingly popular location for hosting idyllic weddings or events. Lush gardens, pebble stone mosaics, crystal clear waters make Kallithea Springs the ideal location for a magical getaway.

Seven Springs

Day 3-4
Are you ready for some adventure? Next stop, Seven Springs in Kolympia. The water of the springs and river Loutanis is channeled into a tunnel through which it is led to the lake. On the way... The tunnel was constructed by Italian constructors and local workers and was completed in 1931. This dark and narrow path leading to Rhodes’ natural heaven. At the end of the 150-long tunnel, there is a lake created by a dam completed in 1931. The lake is 200 metres long, 10 to 50 metres wide and 1 to 8 metres deep. It is the only place in Rhodes where visitors can enjoy a swim in fresh water, cool natural springs and a beautiful forest around the lake. Don't forget to bring the necessary gear! -Wear comfortable shoes or even better flip-flops because the tunnel’s floor has a constant water flow. -Keep a bottle of water with you! -7 springs is the purest, natural spot of Rhodes that differentiates itself from the rest of the island! So make sure to bring your camera. After this adventure for sure we’ll get hungry. Lucky us, there is an amazing restaurant with top quality food, traditional dishes and a lot of refreshments. Perfect place to recharge our batteries!
4

Butterflies Valley

Day 4-5
The Valley of Butterflies is a natural park located at a distance of 23 km from the capital Rhodes and belongs to a Natura 20001 protected zone. It is the place where tiger moths of the species Panaxia Quadripunctaria gather in summer. This species of butterfly is common in the Mediterranean, in Europe and in Western Asia. A small river, named Pelecanos, flows down to a narrow valley, ending with a waterfall that tumbles into a green pool. On the bends there is a forest of zitia, a species of tree that excretes an aromatic raisin, which is said to attracts the butterflies. The combination of the valley’s microclimate with its exceptional flora, creates the ideal environment for the breed of a large population of caterpillars, that live on the trees and feed from the tender leaves. During the summer visitors can observe a unique phenomenon that made the valley famous. Millions of months gathered on the trees, in some cases covering entire tree trunks, resting for the night. Aside from the butterflies, the valley is full of lush vegetation and rich fauna. Surrounded by huge rocks, century-old trees and the flowing crystalline water, a narrow pebbly pathway with wooden bridges will guide you through a scenery of rare beauty until you reach the top of the creek. Lower, in the entry of the valley, there is a small but interesting Natural History Museum where visitors can learn more about the valley of Butterflies its unique ecosystem.
5

Lindos

Day 5-6
Situated on a hilltop and surrounded by an enchanting bay and pristine beach, the fishing village of Lindos is famous for both its historical and natural beauty. Unwind at mythical St. Paul’s Bay before visiting the Acropolis of Lindos, the Lindos Archaeological Museum, and other historical sites in the area. And the best way to go to Linda’s is by boat. Trust me. So, get ready for a boat tour starting from Rhodes, having some stops meanwhile at some very magical beaches. This is a must and we can’t miss it.
6

Symi

Day 6-7
Symi is a little boutique island very close to Rhodes. And the only way to go there is by boat. We will spend almost all day having also a stop in a very beautiful bay. We will have enough time to go around, having a lunch and walk through the center. Then we will have our way back to the marina.
7

Medieval City of Rhodes

Day 7
Exploring the medieval Old Town of Rhodes is like stepping into a world of chivalry and knights, with castle walls and cobblestone streets… a scene that’s unlike any other on a Greek island. Rhodes Old Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, but it’s not your classic heritage spot and it’s certainly unlike the main town of any other Greek island. Continuously inhabited since medieval times, it was a sovereign state under the rule of the Knights of the Order of St John in the Middle Ages until it fell to the Ottomans in 1522. Many knights accepted the offer of safe passage and fled but other residents remained, resulting in a uniquely multicultural city. The streets are so well-preserved that you half expect a knight on horseback to ride past at any time. And that’s before you turn into the Ottoman or Jewish districts, which have a very different feel to them. And yet Rhodes town also retains a distinctive Greek island vibe. Unique experience walking around the castle. Join me and let's have unforgettable memories together.
