Trip Itinerary
1
Avenida Paseo de la Reforma
Day 1
¡Bienvenidos a la Ciudad de México! Once you touch down in Mexico City, head straight to our accommodations to check in and get settled. We'll be staying as a group in private boutique accommodations, right on the city's lively Paseo de la Reforma—the most famous street in all of Mexico! Close to everything and quite convenient, this is one of the best and most sought-after locations in the city. Depending on the time of your arrival, you can relax in our cozy living room or hit the ground to start exploring on your own! We recommend strolling along Reforma to the Angel of Independence (Mexico's version of the Statue of Liberty) or going into Bosque de Chapultepec (our "Central Park").
2
Avenida Paseo de la Reforma
Day 1
In the evening, get to know your fellow travelers over a welcome dinner on our hotel's private, open-air terrace. As we break bread (or rather, tortilla) together, we'll also go over the itinerary for the next few days.
3
Cityzen
Day 1-2
Those who want to continue their evening are invited to head down the street to Cityzen, the rooftop bar of the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma. This is one of the most beautiful rooftops in the entire city, with stunning views of Reforma and the Angel of Independence. We'll have a reservation for our group for cocktails and light bites.
4
Historic center of Mexico City
Day 2
El Centro Histórico is the most iconic neighborhood in Mexico City. We'll have a professional tour guide show us the top sights, including the Metropolitan Cathedral (the oldest & largest in Latin America), Templo Mayor (Aztec ruins), Palacio de Bellas Artes (the most beautiful building in the city), and more. We'll also visit a number of authentic ofrendas constructed throughout Centro, including the Mega Ofrenda in the Zócalo, the main square in the Historic Center. The Mega Ofrenda is the largest in the city, and it's a sight to behold! The design changes every year, but expect altars from each of Mexico's 32 states, often featuring intricate designs made out of sand, beautiful alebrije statues, and more.
5
Azul Historico
Day 2
We'll enjoy a meal at one of the top restaurants in all of the city, Azul Histórico. Housed in the interior courtyard of a 17th-century colonial building, Azul Histórico offers a menu that emphasizes traditional Mexican dishes with contemporary twists. Chef Ricardo Muñoz Zurita, a well-known figure in Mexican gastronomy, curates the menu, ensuring high-quality and authentic flavors. Some of the standout dishes include mole, a rich and complex sauce typically served with chicken, and cochinita pibil, a slow-roasted pork dish from the Yucatán Peninsula.
6
Roma Norte
Day 2-3
Happy Halloween! Mexico City has been ranked one of the best destinations in the world for cocktails, so this evening, we'll hit our trendiest neighborhood, Roma Norte, for a craft cocktail crawl. We'll have information on Halloween-themed parties for those who want to continue on afterwards.
7
Avenida Paseo de la Reforma
Day 3
It's the first day of Día de Muertos! Enjoy traditional pan de muerto (a sweet bread eaten on Día de Muertos) and coffee at your leisure on our private terrace before we start out on a busy and exciting day.
8
Mercado Jamaica
Day 3
We will take a tour of one of Mexico City's most diverse and fascinating markets, where locals buy food, groceries, flowers, gifts, and more. Mercado Jamaica comes alive on Día de Muertos, with everyone shopping for the items needed to build their ofrendas. We'll join in, buying marigolds, candles, papel picado, candy skulls, and more, then head back to our accommodations to construct our own ofrenda dedicated to our loved ones who have passed.
9
Xochimilco
Day 3
In the evening, we'll head to Xochimilco, a southern neighborhood with beautiful waterways known for its trajineras, flat wooden boats with roofs and chairs that transport people down the canals. During Día de Muertos, there is a spectacular musical theater and dance show held on the water called La Llorona, that we will be able to watch from our boats.
10
Xochimilco
Day 3-4
After the show, our local tour guide will take us to a cemetery in Xochimilco to witness firsthand the meaningful decorations and celebrations of people welcoming back the spirits of their loved ones.
11
Coyoacán
Day 4
Coyoacán, Mexico City's oldest and most charming neighborhood, is the most fun place to be on Día de Muertos. The streets are packed with costumed revelers, enjoying the ofrendas and parades, and indulging in lots of eating (churros are the specialty here) and drinking. We'll have a tour guide who specializes in Coyoacán explain the area's context and history on our way, and then you can choose to continue on with her or enjoy the vibrant festivities on your own.
12
Frida Kahlo Museum
Day 4
No visit to Coyoacán is complete without a stop at Casa Azul, the Frida Kahlo museum! During Día de Muertos it houses a truly magnificent ofrenda, which we will get to see in addition to exploring the former home of framed Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Everyone will receive a timed ticket for admission during our day in Coyoacán.
13
Paseo de la Reforma
Day 4-5
It's PARTY TIME! You haven't truly experienced a holiday in Mexico if you haven't partied a little ;) We'll celebrate Día de Muertos in an epic way on our rooftop terrace with a live DJ, face painters (for an iconic Catrine/Catrina look), professional photographer and backdrop, fun decorations, bocadillos (Mexican tapas) and a cash bar.
14
Paseo de la Reforma
Day 5
It's our final morning together! Enjoy a farewell brunch on the rooftop before it's time to check out and go our separate ways. If you have a later return flight, you can store your luggage at the front desk for the day.
