Join me on this exciting trip to the top of the world! Svalbard 🌲 awaits in all its glory and wilderness. Ever dreamt of riding a sled pulled by dogs? You are lucky! That is one of the most effective ways to get around in Svalbard during the winter! This trip is designed to let you experience the local life, but also take you on an adventure of a lifetime. Kayaking next to a glacier 🏔️, exploring a post-Soviet ghost town 🏘️, caves and mountain hikes, this trip will test your limits and forge a bond with nature in its wildest form. Are you ready? Since Svalbard is a place with incredible history of exploration, the nature of the trip is purely adventurous. We will have to carefully observe the weather to select which activities to do when to get the most out of our time there! My name is Damian and I present to you one of my biggest dream trips. The trip to Svalbard has been on my mind for years now, and now I am finally making it happen. I have always wanted to experience the real North, and this is arguably the best place to do so. I want to get out of my comfort zone, and I encourage you to do the same if you join me!

🏨The accommodation for this trip is divided into two places we will stay at. In Longyearbyen, we will be staying at a hostel-type accommodation with 2 shared rooms (4 bed in one, 2 in the other) with a kitchen for meal preparation and a hang-out area. 🏨The other place is a hotel in Pyramiden (shared twin rooms, single occupation available with an additional fee). Pyramiden is a long-forgotten Soviet mining town in Svalbard. Our stay there is a perfect opprotunity to explore this place frozen in time. Not many people visit Pyramiden which creates an atmosphere of mystery and adventure but at the same time we will have all the comforts of a hotel at our convenience! Oslo

Day 1

All of us will have to get flights from either Oslo or Tromso directly into Longyearbyen in Svalbard. This is not part of the trip's itinerary and it is mostly here to help you organise your own flights!

Longyearbyen

Day 1-2

After catching a flight to Svalbard, we will meet at the airport or in the town centre and take the first day easy as we get used to the climate and get to know each other. In the evening we will be out on our first challenge, tasting the local cuisine such as the ''rype'', a local bird dish, reindeer meat and local beer! Being far from civilization, we will begin to "hunt" for northern lights, which are one of the most incredible natural phenomena in the world.

Pyramiden

Day 2-3

After our relaxed evening in Longyearbyen, we will have to wake up early for an 8:30am pickup for our first challenge. We will be taking a day-trip on a boat which will drop us off at the Ghost Town of Pyramiden, where we will stay for 2 nights to explore. The area offers stunning scenery, the opportunity to go (literally!) back in time while exploring the forgotten town of Pyramiden. We will also be able to hire bikes and explore a bit further out of town while immersing ourselves in the wild Arctic climate. Here, the environment is perfect for spending hours looking up at the sky to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis. We just need some luck with clear skies!

Longyearbyen

Day 3-8

As we return to civilization in the evening of Day 4 of our adventure in Svalbard, we take it easy and have a relaxing evening meal. The next three full days on our trip will be spent in and around Longyearbyen, taking day trips and guided tours! There are a lot of options to choose from. The trips I have prepared include: Fjord Safari to a Glacier Sarkofagen hike with a guide Trollsteinen hike with a guide Dogs on wheels (dogsledding) experience tour Hike to Global Seed Vault with a guide Coal Mine visit with a guide Hybrid Boat fjords tour with wildlife watching with a guide All of these trips are included in the trip price, so we will just have to discuss within our group which tour to go on and what day. Svalbard offers something for everyone, so it is almost certain we will have the time of our lives hiking the glaciers and searching for wild reindeers!
