Trip Itinerary

Guatemala City

Day 1-2
November 11th: Welcome to Guatemala! Arrive at Guatemala City Airport (La Aurora) by 2 pm. We'll pick you up at the airport and bring you to our boutique hotel, where you can check into your room. Shortly after, we'll have a local guide to show us around some of the most memorable spots in Guatemala City and give us insights into the history and cultural significance of the city. Following that, we will have a welcome dinner at a local restaurant to introduce your pallet to the local cuisine, and properly get to know each other.
2

Semuc Champey Natural Monument

Day 2-3
November 12th: The next morning, we'll board a shuttle that will drive us to the north of the country, deep into the jungle. The drive is quite a journey but will allow us to witness one of Guatemala's natural wonders known as Semuc Champey. These springs consist of a series of turquoise pool terraces in a valley, surrounded by a thick jungle. We will stay in a boutique hostel 600 m from the springs inside the National Park. Once we arrive at our jungle hostel, we'll have dinner together and then some free time to relax at the pool, play some games, or have a drink at the bar.

Semuc Champey Natural Monument

Day 3-4
November 13th: Get ready for a full day in nature! We'll have breakfast before a day excursion to see Semuc Champey, nearby caves, and tubing down the river. We'll start with a little hike to a viewpoint overlooking Semuc Champey and the perfect spot for photos. Afterward, we'll head down to the springs where we will have plenty of time to swim, lounge, and explore the pool terraces. Later we will go explore a local cave and be guided inside with the light of handheld candles. Last but not least, we will rope swing and tube down the river with a fresh beer in our hand. Back at the hostel, we'll get dinner and have more time to unwind and enjoy the evening together.

Semuc Champey Natural Monument

Day 4
November 14th: This morning is dedicated to you! Spend the last morning in the jungle by returning to the nearby springs, reading a book in the pristine nature, or just relaxing at the pool. Around noon, we'll meet for checkout and lunch at the hostel before starting our journey to our next destination- Antigua. After arriving and getting situated in Antigua, you can opt in for a night out for an introduction to the vibrant nightlife in Antigua.
5

Antigua Guatemala

Day 4-5
November 15th: After breakfast, we'll meet our local guide who will take us around the parks and cobblestone streets of Antigua, showing and explaining to us why this city became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and how that influences the cityscape. In the late afternoon, we'll have a short drive to the nearby active volcano Pacaya where we'll do a short hike, learn about the volcanos, and have some food prepared by the heat of the volcanic activity!
6

Antigua Guatemala

Day 5-6
November 16th: Guatemala is a world-renowned coffee producer, so today we'll visit a micro farmer that cultivates coffee within a cooperative that focuses on fair and direct trade. He will show and explain to us the entire process of growing and roasting, as well as how this business impacts local communities. At his home, we'll get to have coffee with him and his family and get to take a bag home with us as part of the experience. In the afternoon, we'll have a culinary experience at a regenerative food project where we'll learn how to make our own tortillas, followed by a tasting of 5 staple Guatemalan dishes. After that experience, you’ll understand the gastronomic and cultural context of Guatemalan cuisine.
7

Antigua Guatemala

Day 6-7
November 17th: The last morning in Antigua is for your leisure. You have countless options like exploring a market, visiting a nice restaurant or checking out one of the many rooftops. We'll meet for lunch at a local's favorite place, before picking up our belongings and starting the 2.5 hr long drive to one of the most impressive lakes in the world, "Lago Atitlan". Here, we will visit a cultural center, and learn about the Mayan influence on the everyday life of the indigenous community. Following that, we'll ride on the back of a pick-up truck to another town, visit the local market before taking a boat taxi to get to our beautiful lakeside accommodation, where we're going to stay for the next two days.
8

Lake Atitlán

Day 7-9
November 18th: Today is an early morning to catch the sunrise over the lake! After a quick boat ride, we'll head out for a short (45 min) hike to a mountain peak with an incredible sunrise viewpoint. We'll have coffee available as we witness the first pre-glow of the sun that slowly reveals the view over the lake until the sun completely fills the sky. After taking in the impressive view, we'll go down to San Juan, a local town full of color and culture, where we'll have breakfast. You can opt to stay in town and get to know some of its local cultures, or go back to the villa and spend time at the lake. For our last night, we'll have dinner at the villa and have beer and wine available for a game night together to wrap up the trip.
9

Lake Atitlán

Day 9
November 19th: Wake up for your last morning in Guatemala! We'll have breakfast overlooking the lake, followed by a few hours to soak up the last bit of the beautiful views before we take water taxis to the mainland for our airport shuttles. Although the trip may be over, the memories we've made will travel home with us! In case you have more time and want to extend your time in Guatemala, don't hesitate to reach out to us, and we'll give you our best recommendations for some extra days on your own.
