Throughout the journey, we will undertake various hikes, including the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, which lasts 6-8 hours. ā€¢ Only if you are healthy and fit enough to participate in the listed activities should you book the trip. Ask the TripLeader for more information if you're not sure this trip is for you. There may be alternative attractions for you to do instead. 2. Flights ā€¢ Each TripMate is responsible for arriving at the place where the trip begins on time. ā€¢ To coordinate flights to/from New Zealand with other TripMates or the TripLeader, communicate with the group members. ā€¢ In order for the trip to go smoothly, don't buy flights that are part of the trip itinerary (Wellington-Christchurch) and flights out of the last destination withoout communicating with the TripLeader first. ā€¢ If TripMate's flight schedule does not align with the group's schedule, it is solely TripMate's responsibility. ā€¢ Please note that because each Teammate may be arriving to New Zealand on a different time, airport transfers are not guaranteed and must be accepted by the TripLeader. >> Flights from Wellington to Christchurch are usually in the 100-300 NZD price range. 3. Attractions & Itinerary ā€¢ If not included in the itinerary, after booking, you will receive a list of additional attractions that you can participate in if time allows, or if the group chooses to do them instead of the main itinerary attractions. ā€¢ Please contact the TripLeader before making any final bookings for any ticketed attractions for the trip. 4. Free Time ā€¢ Our itinerary is packed with the best attractions New Zealand has to offer. Get ready for long days of sightseeing and travel. 5. Partying ā€¢ If you're looking for a trip that focuses on partying, this is not a trip for you. 6. Food ā€¢ TripMates have the freedom to plan their meals on their own, whether it's dining out, preparing meals on their own or with the group. ā€¢ The TripLeader will inform TripMates on food options for each day, as well as kitchen availability in each accommodation. ā€¢ In certain locations food options may be limited or absent, the TripLeader will advise TripMates on that in advance so that they can prepare proper provisions. >> Food expenses will be approx. 50 NZD/day, but depend on individual needs. Ask the TripLeader for more details on food prices in New Zealand. 7. Communication ā€¢ There will be a pre-trip online meeting for TripMates. Additionally, the Trip Leader will create a WhatsApp group for all TripMates to communicate before and during the trip. 8. Group Size ā€¢ If there aren't enough TripMates to book the trip by 15.09.2024 (8 TripMates for this trip), the TripLeader may cancel the trip or there may be changes to the price, itinerary or accommodation standards of the trip that you will be asked to accept. In case of a cancellation, there are options that will still make it possible for you to go to your dream destination, look for more details on this in the TripLeader's Trip Terms & Conditions. 9. Auckland

Day 1-2
Our first day in New Zealand will be a relaxed introduction, allowing everyone to adjust to the new time zone and get comfortable. We'll focus on settling in, buying groceries, and other essentials for the trip, as well as getting to know each other. Specific activities for the day will be chosen based on everyone's arrival times and energy levels. Here are some examples of activities we may do: 1. Ferry Trip to Devonport (cost: 16 NZD) Take a scenic ferry ride to the beachfront neighborhood of Devonport, known for its charming cafes and historic sites. 2. Walk Through Parnell Stroll through the Victorian neighbourhood of Parnell, exploring its quaint streets, boutique shops, and delightful eateries. 3. Auckland War Memorial Museum (cost: 28 NZD) Visit the Auckland War Memorial Museum to learn about New Zealand's history, culture, and natural heritage. 4. Auckland Art Gallery (Free) Explore the Auckland Art Gallery, home to an impressive collection of national and international art. 5. Muriwai Gannet Colony

Day 2-3
We start our adventure with a stroll around Auckland's vibrant city center, exploring the areas between Karangahape Road and Downtown Terminal, and enjoying the local shops and cafes. Next, weā€™ll ascend Mount Eden, the highest volcano in the city, where weā€™ll soak in stunning panoramic views of the city. Our excitement continues in the afternoon as we journey to the Muriwai Gannet Colony to witness the awe-inspiring sight of majestic bird colonies, dramatic cliffs, and black sand beaches. If time permits, we can relax on the beautiful beaches of Muriwai, or for the more adventurous, dive into the thrill of surfing lessons (cost: 70 NZD). As the day winds down, weā€™ll embark on a scenic drive to the Hamilton area for our overnight stay, setting the stage for magical experiences in Hobbiton the next day.

Rotorua

Day 3-4
We begin the day by immersing ourselves in the magical movie set of the famous Hobbiton, exploring the whimsical hobbit holes and lush landscapes that bring Tolkien's world to life (cost: 120 NZD). Next up, we head to Rotorua, a city renowned for its geothermal wonders and rich Maori culture. Once we arrive, weā€™ll take a leisurely stroll through Rotorua, visiting key attractions such as the Tunohopu Marae, the historic St. Faiths Church, Rotorua Museum, and Kuirau Park with its steaming geothermal features and hot footbaths. Here, you'll also get a chance to browse traditional pounamu jewelry and authentic souvenir pieces. In the late afternoon, we'll go to a Maori Village, where we'll take part in a traditional Maori hangi dinner featuring a captivating cultural performance, including the famous Haka (cost: 155 NZD).

Taupō

Day 4-5
Today, we begin with a refreshing walk through the majestic Redwoods ā€“ Whakarewarewa Forest, where weā€™ll spend time amidst towering trees and lush greenery. Optionally, you can explore the forest from a different perspective with a canopy walk high among the trees (40 NZD). After leaving Rotorua, we'll explore the Waimangu Volcanic Valley, offering a unique glimpse of geothermal activity with its steaming cliffs, geysers, and vibrant mineral deposits creating a surreal landscape (price: 46 NZD). Next, weā€™ll visit the spectacular Aratiatia Rapids, marveling at the powerful flow of water as it surges through the narrow gorge. Afterwards, we'll head to the breathtaking Huka Falls, where weā€™ll witness the stunning waterfall in all its glory. For those seeking excitement, you can experience the falls on a thrilling jet boat ride (price: 139 NZD). Day 5-6
We start our day early with a scenic drive to the beginning of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing trail, one of New Zealand's most iconic hikes. Once on the trail, we'll embark on the challenging yet rewarding trek, which will take 6-8 hours. As we traverse the rugged terrain, we'll be treated to stunning vistas of volcanic landscapes, emerald lakes, and panoramic views that will leave us speechless (price: 60 NZD). After completing the hike, we'll drive to Ohakune, enjoying awe-inspiring views of Mt Ruapehu along the way. Upon arrival, we'll savor a well-deserved meal, taking time to relax, refuel, and stroll around the charming town. In the evening, we'll visit the Whanganui River, the first river in the world to be granted the same legal rights as a human being.

Wellington

Day 6-7
Following breakfast, we'll embark on a drive to Wellington, the vibrant capital city of New Zealand. Along the way, we'll stop at a local farm shop and honey center, where you'll have the opportunity to sample kiwi produce, including the renowned manuka honey. Upon arrival in Wellington, weā€™ll begin our exploration with a leisurely stroll through the city, pausing for lunch along the way. Our walk will take us to several iconic landmarks, including Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, the New Zealand Parliament Buildings, the Waterfront, Civic Square, and the Wellington Botanic Garden (Wellington Cable Car ticket: 11 NZD). Next, weā€™ll spend 2-3 hours exploring the world-class Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, which offers fascinating exhibits on the nation's history and culture (admission: free). To cap off the day, we'll drive up to Mount Victoria to watch the sunset, soaking in the panoramic views of Wellington and the surrounding area. This will be a perfect end to our time on the North Island.

Arthur's Pass National Park

Day 7-8
In the morning, we head to the airport and board a flight to Christchurch, catching our first glimpses of the majestic Southern Alps of New Zealand from the sky. Upon arriving in Christchurch, we will enjoy a leisurely lunch before spending some time shopping for groceries and essentials needed for the rest of our journey. Next, we embark on a scenic drive from Christchurch towards the mountains of Arthurā€™s Pass National Park. Along the way, weā€™ll make multiple stops to take in the breathtaking views, including a walk among the fascinating rock formations at the stunning Castle Hill. A highlight of our visit to Arthurā€™s Pass Village will be the walk to the 131-meter high Devil's Punchbowl Waterfall. This awe-inspiring natural wonder features a dramatic cascade of water, creating a spectacular sight and a refreshing mist that invigorates the senses. The walk to the waterfall will be a rewarding experience, immersing us in the beauty of the surrounding native bush and offering fantastic photo opportunities, perhaps with the local alpine parrot, Kea.

Hokitika

Day 8-9
Today we start with a wonderful two-hour drive through the steep mountains of Arthurā€™s Pass Village until we reach the wild shores of the West Coast and arrive at Punakaiki. Here, we'll explore the breathtaking beauty of the famous Pancake Rocks and blowholes, and walk local trails that showcase stunning beaches, luxuriant coastal forests, fantastic limestone cliffs and canyons, and pristine rivers. Our journey continues with a drive to Hokitika, passing through the main street of Greymouth, which offers a glimpse into the charming small-town life of New Zealand. Once in Hokitika, weā€™ll shop for local crafts and souvenirs, especially the renowned pounamu (greenstone) jewelry. Following our shopping spree, weā€™ll take a leisurely stroll through central Hokitika, visiting historic sites along the way. In the afternoon, weā€™ll drive to the picturesque Hokitika Gorge, where weā€™ll enjoy a 45-minute trail that offers spectacular views of the turquoise blue waters of the gorge, surrounded by lush native bush. This day promises a mix of scenic drives, outdoor adventures, and cultural discoveries, perfectly capturing the diverse beauty of New Zealandā€™s West Coast.

Day 9-10
We start our day with a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Hokitika to Franz Josef, where the Glacier Country begins. Upon arrival, weā€™ll set out on a trail that offers breathtaking views of the Franz Josef Glacier and the surrounding snow-capped landscape. Next, weā€™ll venture onto one of the local trails to search for the enchanting glowworms in an old mining tunnel, adding a magical touch to our adventure. We leave Franz Joseph and head to Fox Glacier, where we'll explore the surrounding area of a stunning lake famous for the reflected views of Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman on its surface. For those seeking an extra thrill, optional activities include a helicopter flight over the Franz Josef or Fox Glacier, providing unparalleled aerial views of the icy landscapes (price: 330 NZD), or a jade carving workshop, offering a hands-on experience crafting beautiful pieces of New Zealandā€™s treasured greenstone (85 NZD). We'll pass through the majestic Haast Pass, making stops to admire waterfalls cascading off high mountains, the serene Haast River and Lake Hawea, capturing the rugged beauty of this remarkable region. On the way we'll also make a visit to a charming salmon farm cafĆ©, where we can enjoy fresh local delicacies amidst stunning surroundings. Upon arriving in Wanaka, we'll visit a local vineyard for a wine tasting session, taking in the superb views of Lake Wanaka while savouring some of the regionā€™s finest wines. Next, weā€™ll take a leisurely stroll through the centre of Wanaka, exploring the vibrant local shops, cafĆ©s, and attractions. Weā€™ll also enjoy a relaxing walk along the Wanaka Beach and Lakefront, soaking in the picturesque scenery and tranquil atmosphere.

Day 11-12
Our day begins with a picturesque drive from Wanaka along the scenic Cardrona Valley to the charming town of Arrowtown. Upon arrival, we'll take a leisurely stroll down the main street of this historic town, soaking in its unique ambiance and exploring the quaint shops. Next, we'll drive from Arrowtown to New Zealand's Adventure Capital, Queenstown. Once there, weā€™ll explore the vibrant town center and visit Queenstown Bay Beach, enjoying the stunning views and lively atmosphere of the city. After our walk, weā€™ll take the gondola ride up to Bobā€™s Peak, where weā€™ll spend time marveling at the panoramic views of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu, and the surrounding mountains (price: 52 NZD). In the late afternoon, weā€™ll embark on a drive to Te Anau, the gateway to the magnificent Fiordland National Park. Day 12-13
Our day begins with an early morning drive from Te Anau to the majestic Milford Sound, a journey through some of New Zealand's most breathtaking landscapes. Upon arrival, weā€™ll embark on a scenic cruise through Milford Sound, marvelling at the towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and the chance to spot local wildlife such as seals and dolphins (price: 125 NZD) After the cruise, we'll enjoy the Milford Sound Foreshore Walk, a stunning trail that offers panoramic views of the sound and its surrounding peaks. On our return journey to Te Anau, we'll make several stops at notable viewpoints and natural attractions. Weā€™ll visit thundering waterfalls, watch for the curious Kea parrots, and take the short Chasm Walk to witness the impressive rock formations carved by the Cleddau River. We'll also stop at the serene Lake Marian Falls and the reflective Mirror Lakes, each offering unique photo opportunities and a chance to immerse ourselves in the pristine beauty of Fiordland National Park.

Clay Cliffs

Day 13-14
We'll begin our day with a scenic drive from Te Anau to Cromwell, traveling through the stunning Kawarau Gorge. This route offers breathtaking views of rugged landscapes and the rushing Kawarau River, making the journey as memorable as the destinations. Upon arriving in Cromwell, we'll delve into the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, a charming area that transports us back to the gold rush era with its preserved buildings and quaint shops. We'll also visit The Junction Lookout, where panoramic views of the surrounding landscape await. Next, we continue our journey with a two-hour drive from Cromwell to the remarkable Clay Cliffs, passing through the picturesque Lindis Pass. The Lindis Pass offers dramatic vistas of tussock-covered hills and winding roads, providing plenty of opportunities for stunning photos. Upon arrival at the Clay Cliffs, weā€™ll spend time exploring these unique geological formations. The towering cliffs and sharp pinnacles, shaped by thousands of years of erosion, create a striking and otherworldly landscape perfect for photography and exploration.

Aoraki / Mount Cook

Day 14-15
Our day begins with a picturesque drive from Twizel to Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, home to New Zealandā€™s highest peak and some of the countryā€™s most awe-inspiring landscapes. Upon arrival, weā€™ll embark on the Hooker Valley Track, a stunning hike that winds through the alpine scenery, crossing swing bridges, and offering breathtaking views of Aoraki/Mount Cook and the surrounding glaciers. This trek is a perfect opportunity to immerse ourselves in the park's natural beauty and capture unforgettable photos. After the hike, weā€™ll visit the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park Visitor Centre. Here, we can learn about the parkā€™s geology, history, and the fascinating mountaineering feats that have taken place in the region. Next, weā€™ll explore the Tasman Glacier View Track. This short walk provides an excellent vantage point to view the Tasman Glacier and the surrounding ice formations, offering another perspective on the park's glacial landscapes. In the afternoon, weā€™ll drive to the charming town of Tekapo. Here, we'll visit the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd, which sits picturesquely on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Weā€™ll also take a leisurely stroll along the lake, enjoying the stunning turquoise waters and the serene mountain backdrop. As night falls, we have the unique opportunity to gaze at the starry sky in the Dark Sky Reserve. Tekapo is renowned for its clear skies and minimal light pollution, making it one of the best places in the world for stargazing.

Christchurch

Day 15
On our final day in New Zealand, we begin with a drive from Tekapo to Christchurch, taking in the beautiful landscapes along the way. Upon arriving in Christchurch, weā€™ll embark on a leisurely stroll through the city center, visiting several key landmarks, such as the vibrant New Regent Street Precinct, known for its colorful Spanish Mission-style architecture and charming shops. We then visit the serene Christchurch Botanic Gardens, where we can enjoy the diverse plant collections and beautifully landscaped grounds. In the afternoon, weā€™ll drive along the scenic route through the Port Hills, offering panoramic views of the city, Canterbury Plains, and Lyttelton Harbour. This drive provides a stunning backdrop as we reflect on our journey through New Zealand.
