Explore the best places in Belgium
Belgium officially known as the Kingdom of Belgium is a small country in Western Europe. It is a mix of ancient architecture and modern towns. The country is known for its world-famous Belgium chocolate, waffles and has many distinctive dishes. You will witness that French, as well as Dutch languages, are spoken here the most and a bit of German too. The capital of Belgium is Brussels and the currency is Euro. Here is our 2-day itinerary where we will be providing a list of all the places that you can visit while backpacking around Belgium and explore the best places.
2 Days itinerary
Since you have only two days it becomes very difficult to add all the activities or places to explore especially for the ones who are expecting to backpack around Belgium. Still, somehow you can manage to cover all the places which are a must to visit while in Belgium.
You arrive at Charleroi Airport which is on the outskirts of Brussels city. Once arrived at the airport take a shuttle to Brussels city. It takes almost 90 minutes to reach the main city. English is widely spoken here so no need to worry about communication and if you know French, Dutch or German then it is the icing on the cake. Day 1 – Brussels
Drop your bags at the hotel and relax for a while. Now, you are ready to explore Brussels. You will need to cover most of the places by walking. In one day the best you can do is book a walking tour and the travel guide takes you to all the important places to visit in a short span of time. The place to start off is Grand Palace. This is the place where the heart of Brussels lies. It has several amazing buildings to explore and admire. When in Brussels always explore the city by walking. You will witness comic street here as it’s the birthplace of the most famous comic character Tintin.
Les Galeries Saint Hubert is the shopping arcade. Here you can visit coffee shops, do some window shopping. You can have your lunch and try out Belgian waffles, Belgian chocolates, and especially Belgian hot chocolate.
You can visit Place du Petit Sablon. It is surrounded by greenery and buildings and it represents beautiful architecture. If you want to visit the museum you can visit Rue de Musee. Here you will be witnessing some fine arts and several museums. The royal palace of Brussels
In Brussels, the Royal Palace is just beyond the Old Town and European Quarter, and it’s home to the Belgian Royal Family.
Parc du Cinquantenaire
This is a park that is even home to a massive triumphal Arch that celebrated 50 years of Independence. You can relax here for a while as since morning you have been walking around the city exploring some of the best places in Belgium.
Atomium
This is a building constructed for the World expo. The architecture is worth watching. You must visit here as well as take some pictures as well. After all this, you can treat yourself to the authentic delicacies of Belgium and try out some new innovative chocolates and waffles. You should take a rest, as the next day you will be going to Bruges. You only have two days with you in Belgium so you can’t spend much time in a single place.
Day 2 – Bruges
You will be taking a train from Brussels directly to Bruges. It takes one hour to reach Bruges. Once you reach Bruges, you can freshen up and try wearing comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of walking. You can start from Market Square. Next, you can visit Belfry tower. It is 83m tall and has 366 stairs. You will have to climb 366 stairs to reach the top but from the top the view of the town is breathtaking. It looks really beautiful.
You can even go for a canal boat tour. A visit to Bruges is incomplete if you don’t take a canal boat tour. The captain will be sharing some interesting facts and stories about the history and buildings of Bruges. Next, you can visit Burg square. It is located close to the Market square building and it has some of the most impressive buildings.
Minnewater Park
After so much walking you must be tired enough, so you can have some food and take a rest for a while. After relaxing you can go to Minnewater Park. This is a beautiful park where you can sit and relax for a while. Take a moment and embrace the beauty of some of the best places as today is your last day backpacking around Belgium. Here in this park, you can see swans swimming through the canals. In Belgium, swans are a symbol of the city. This park is close to the station. After some time you can head back towards Brussels and get ready for Departure.
