We’ve mentioned some of our favorite UNESCO sites throughout some of our blogs, so it’s about time we compile a list of the best ones out there! First of all, what is a UNESCO site? It’s a place that has been deemed to have some sort of cultural or physical significance. That being said… there are so many amazing places that are worthy of this name that picking the best ones is a challenge in itself. Many of these UNESCO sites are also included in our List of 50 Places YOU Need to Visit Before You Die. Life is short, and the world is wide, so off we go!

Cinque Terre, Italy
The Italian coast, with its colorful buildings and rocky shores, is just waiting to be ticked off your bucket list. What’s more, it naturally holds a title as a UNESCO heritage site. On the coast of Cinque Terre, you’ll find five coastal villages that belong to the area. Some of the most popular activities in the area include taking a boat tour and viewing the beautiful coast from the water or hiking along the coast to discover the beautiful five villages! No cars are allowed, so the best thing you can do is to start tying up your hiking boots.

9. Yellowstone National Park, USA
This versatile park offers plenty of sights for its visitors. What makes Yellowstone unique is that it is located on top of a volcanic hotspot. Its broad types of habitat make for some diverse wildlife within the park. Rivers, forests, hot springs… you name it! Yellowstone has it. 8. Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
As the only standing OG world wonder, the pyramids of Egypt are definitely a place for every traveler to pay a visit to. These magnificent structures were built when Egypt was one of the most powerful and rich civilizations in the world… and they look like it, too! The Great Pyramid, also known as Pyramid of Khufu, is the largest (at 138.8m high) and oldest of the three standing structures. 7. Acropolis, Greece
The Acropolis in Athens, Greece houses a lot of history. Once upon a time, significant events of philosophy, theater, democracy and free speech took place here. Crowning this incredible UNESCO site, you’ll of course find the Parthenon. 6. The Historic City of Salzburg, Austria
The Sound of Music city of Salzburg is boasting with historical buildings in a mountainous scenery. What could be better? 5. Giants Causeway, UK
The Giants Causeway located in Northern Ireland (which is part of the UK, by the way!) is a sight to see for all nature-lovers. The volcanic activity in the area has made a pretty amazing coastline, with unique basalt column structures. 4. Cappadocia, Turkey

2. Mont Saint Michel, France
This lonely island is full of treasures. Located off the north-western coast of France, Mont Saint Michel is a tidal island. That being said, the island is reached by bridge at certain times of the day, while at low tide you can walk on the ocean floor to reach this beautiful UNESCO site. Regarded as one of France’s best attractions, the gorgeous architecture of the town is to be experienced.

1. Dolomites, Italy
The Italian Dolomites are just something else. Their jagged and enormous beauty offers plenty for the nature-lover. Why not pay a visit to the coast and then continue your way to the mountains?
