Hear the Sound of Music: Salzburg, Austria
The hills are alive! The city of Salzburg was one of the main filming locations for the famous play Sound of Music, and you’ll feel like you’re right in the middle of it when visiting. Located in north-central Austria, the city of Salzburg is the fourth-largest in the country. The name Salzburg means ‘Salt Castle’, because the river running through the city, Salzach, which was once famously used for transporting salt.

The Sound of Music isn’t the only famously known musical masterpiece to come out of this city. One of the most well-known composers, Mozart, was also born here. You can indeed visit Mozart’s Birthplace, Mozart’s Geburtshaus, located right in the center of the city. For Sound of Music fans, a must-visit spot in the city is Mirabellgarten, where you can be sure to recognize many filming spots of the famous play.
The city of Salzburg can also be labeled as one of the most beautiful in the world, because it just so happens to be nestled right in the mountains. The elevation points in the city provide plenty of opportunity to admire the city from many different viewpoints! The best spot to gaze out at the magical city of Salzburg are from:
- The trails of Mönchsberg, which also connect to the Hohensalzburg Fortress
- Aussicht Kapuzinerberg, by taking a set of stairs up called Imbergstiege
- Gaisberg, a small mountain nearby which you can reach by taking a bus from Mirabellplatz (here you can also admire the mountainous scenery!)
Salzburg is also a perfect location for taking day trips to places like Berchtesgaden or St. Gilgen to enjoy the gorgeous mountains of the area.

An alternative to Bruges: Ghent, Belgium
Bruges is often listed as one of the top cities to visit when in Belgium, and although the city is definitely worth checking out, there’s a less crowded alternative: Ghent. It’s not as if tourists have not discovered this destination at all, but you’ll most likely have a little more space to yourself. Bruges is famously known for its canals which run through the city, and you’ll be able to find just the same in Ghent. One of the best ways to experience the city’s medieval architecture is by taking a Free Walking Tour around the city. The St. Michael’s Bridge makes for a spot to enjoy some of the best views in all of Ghent. Plus, make sure to indulge in Belgium’s rich beer culture here, maybe paired with *Belgian* fries or a Belgian waffle!

The city in blue: Chefchaouen, Morocco
The streets of this city painted in blue are a labyrinth waiting to be explored. The surrounding landscape of mountains is also simply astounding. One thing to keep in mind here is that the winter months tend to get cold and although, yes, you are in Africa, pack some sweaters! You might also want to keep in mind that in some Moroccan areas it is considered polite to dress conservatively, so just make sure you’re being respectful of local culture. We’ll always have Paris!
Paris is one of those cities that never gets boring. Seriously, no matter how many times you go or with who you go with, the trip is likely to always give you a new perspective on the city of love and light. - Shop on Avenue des Champs-Élysées and climb Arc de Triomphe for views of the city
