6 Must-Visit Spots in British Columbia

The most stunning spots in Canada’s ‘Wild West’

Canada is known for its versatile landscapes, friendly people and, well, maple syrup. The westernmost province of Canada, British Columbia, boasts some of the country’s most iconic landscapes. A visit to “Beautiful British Columbia” will evidently make for one of the most thrilling trips of your life.

This province has a wide variety of things to offer, but we’ve compiled a list of 6 spots you must visit, so your trip planning is made a little easier! Let’s get to it, eh?

6. Visit the diverse city of Vancouver

The city of Vancouver is known for its energetic vibe, boasting a culturally diverse environment. The city is the perfect mixture between a fun and bustling metropolis and a gateway to nature’s wonders- the perfect place to start (or end) your Canadian adventure. See our list of activities to fill your days in Vancouver! You should consider spending at least a few days here to get the full experience of the city. Reserve a daily budget of around $CA150 to make the most of your visit!

5. Take the ferry to visit Vancouver Island

Undoubtedly Vancouver Island is deserving of a place on the list. Ferries to this island leave from multiple spots in and around Vancouver, but the closest ferry terminals are located in Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay. Remember to book your ferry in advance, especially during the summer season or on weekends!

The island is full of activities and camping opportunities for adventurers of all sorts. If your schedule allows, drive all the way to the other side of the island to from Victoria to Tofino. The beach in Tofino makes it seem like you’re on a tropical island right in Canada… who would have thought that concept was possible!

4. Visit British Columbia’s beautiful Mount Robson Provincial Park

On the border of British Columbia and Alberta is undoubtedly one of British Columbia’s most beautiful provincial parks, Mount Robson Provincial Park. Mount Robson is also the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. This fact alone makes for a reason to go and explore the park’s wonders!

The beautiful Berg Lake Trail takes you on an adventure through the incredible sceneries of Mount Robson. There are 7 campgrounds on the trail, which can be booked in advance. It is recommended to take multiple (at least two) days to hike the trail in its entirety! The hike CAN be done in a day, but hit the gym at least a few times before attempting this and plan to set out on the trail early in the morning.

3. Pay a visit the spooky ghost town in Three Valley Gap

Visiting the ghost town in Three Valley Gap will add a historical spin to your trip. The village is a look into the 1800’s pioneer days of British Columbia and the abandoned villages after the emigration of settlers who came in search for gold. What’s more, this is a perfect place to stop on your way from Mount Robson to Vancouver, or vice versa. The views on the way to this ghost town (coming from either direction), are nothing to complain about either!

2. All the waterfalls!

You will certainly never run out of beautiful waterfalls to visit in British Columbia! Whether heading to the nature or during your city-visit to Vancouver, you’ll be spoiled by the opportunities to go chasing waterfalls. The two most amazing waterfalls located right near the city are Bridal Veil Falls and Cascade Falls. The Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park also offers some pretty special opportunities to spot a waterfall or two. Our advice is that while in British Columbia, you SHOULD go chasing waterfalls.

1. Yoho National Park

Another place to add to your places to pay a visit to in British Columbia is Yoho National Park. Yoho National Park offers day-long or multi-day hikes to its visitors. If you’re short on time, make a pit stop at the Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake, so you can at least snap a few photos for Instagram to share with your friends. These two spots are easily accessible and require only a few minute walk to get to. There is also the possibility to rent canoes (how Canadian!) at Emerald Lake for the price of CA$60/hour. Perhaps you’ll even spot some beavers on your canoeing adventure, if you’re lucky!
