How I discovered the world alone
Traveling alone as a woman? Sure. I’m Evelyn, I was on a 7 month trip around the world and would like to share my experiences with you. I am a super spontaneous person and followed the motto ‘Young & Wild & Free’ as I went on this world trip adventure with only hand luggage and had no plan. In the end I traveled to 14 countries and had a whole bunch of unique experiences and unforgettable adventures. I will now show you my world trip alone as a woman.
How did you decide to travel alone as a woman?
There is this known problem, which you are probably familiar with as well. Friends have no time, money or desire. When I ask them to go on a vacation together, they think about it and then the flight is fully booked. In the beginning I travelled with strangers, who I met online. Sometimes it went well but sometimes not. We separated and experienced the trip more or less alone. That’s how I discovered the advantages of travelling alone. No compromises, no discussions and free decisions. For example, it’s not a probelm when I wake up early and throw all the preevening planning away because sometimes I’m feeling spontaneous.
What was your best experience alone as a woman in the world?
There is not one perfect experience that I would call the best. The whole trip was an unforgettable and unique experience. Just the enrichment of getting to know the different nations around the world with their warm nature, is an ever-lasting experience of its kind. As well as the many friendships I made while traveling with people from all over the world. Not to forget all of the real adventures and experiences.
Snorkeling with whale sharks in the Philippines, climbing a volcano in Indonesia, a once in a lifetime walk on the Stairway to Heaven in Hawaii and driving the cable car with the locals over the breathtaking city of Medellín in Colombia are just a few of them.
Do you have 3 tips that you would like to give to women who want to travel alone?
- Tip – be confident
Do not allow people around you to complicate your plans. You are determined, have your plans in mind and share them with friends and family. But with each additional person you initiate, you will end up having more doubts. I have often been told: How can you imagine this? Traveling alone as a woman will not work! BUT it will be something. Stand above it and stick to your decision.
- Tip – nevertheless do not lose your head
Go through your adventure with confidence and open eyes, experience whatever you want to experience. Because, yes, also alone as a woman everything is possible. But don’t stop thinking logically and always ensure that you have a healthy portion of caution in the back of your mind. After all, you do not have to challenge your happiness.
- Tip – be spontaneous
Travel without planning big. No plan = no expectation = no disappointment. Be ready to experience what the situation offers you and don’t get stuck on what you imagined beforehand.
What are your plans for the future?
At the top of the list is: Discover the world. I wish to see gorillas in the wild once in my life. In Germany, I have the feeling of dying like a flower without water. In the best case scenario, travel and work can be combined. But who knows what the future will bring. Every new step opens new doors and offers new possibilities. Furthermore, I am ensuring that I am sharing all of my experiences. I write down all my accumulated knowledge in great detail on my blog for women traveling alone and I want to share all my tips and experiences with the community. Through deep, detailed insights and a lot of transparency, I try to take away insecurities of other globetrotters, to encourage and inspire them.
What do you think about JoinMyTrip?
When I played with the idea of a world trip, I thought about travelling with travel buddies. That’s how I also ended up with JoinMyTrip. At that time I unfortunately didn’t have a fixed route that I could upload as a trip so that like-minded travel partners could join. Nevertheless, I am very convinced by the concept of JoinMyTrip. The website offers an excellent opportunity to find a travel partner with whom you match.
As TripLeader you can easily publish your well thought-out trips online for free and find like-minded travel partners. A small bonus, well planned trips receive a small expense allowance, the TripLeader fee. I think that’s really great!

Will I take other people with me on my adventures in the future?
If I find cool travel buddies who tick the boxes and match with me and want to discover the world together, definitely! JoinMyTrip is a really good opportunity for that. If I don’t meet these people after all, I will continue to travel alone. I travel alone, but I am never lonely. I always and everywhere meet many great people with whom I can experience adventures together. You surely know the saying: the world is small. For backpackers this is 100% true. It’s not rare that by chance I meet people somewhere in the world who I got to know in a completely different country. It’s a feeling as if I’m meeting old friends again, even though we don’t really know each other at all, and that’s what it’s all about… starting the next adventure together.
