This way, both you and your TripMates will have a wonderful experience! Head to JoinMyTrip to become a TripLeader now.
1. Give your trip a detailed description
Describe your travel style, how your trip should proceed, what you have planned to do at the stops and what you expect from the trip – preferably as detailed as possible. Creating a detailed description will allow interested TripMates have a true understanding of what you are offering, this helps the TripMates to see if the trip is right for them, it also helps save you valuable planning time as you will receive more well-suited TripMates for your trip.
2. Calculate costs correctly
Find out about the prices at your destination and use our cost calculator to calculate the trip costs. We recommend including a buffer as well. This saves a lot of hassle as it is better to have a clear plan as yourself and TripMates do not want to underestimate costs and be with too little money.
Small reminder: The costs for arrival and departure are not included in the trip costs. You only show your TripMates the price for accommodation, local transport and any activities.
3. Do not keep interested TripMates waiting
The best thing to do is to turn on your SMS notifications – you can do this in your profile – so you will be informed about messages immediately. You decide who you travel with. Inform your TripMates if they can travel with you so that they can request another trip.
Clear communication is key between you and your TripMates, so if you decide against an interested TripMate, then that’s okay just let them know. Or, if you are interested in a TripMate, let them know sooner rather than later.
4. Be inclusive!
When looking for TripMates, go for diversity, it is very enriching! As long as you have the same expectations of the trip, a mixed bunch from different backgrounds is always a great idea! It is important for individuals to have the same expectations of a trip, traveling is an exciting experience and there are so many reasons to do it!
5. Do not receive payments outside the platform
Make sure that the payment of the trip costs (20% deposit and balance) is done through the secure payment system of JoinMyTrip. If this does not happen, we, unfortunately, cannot guarantee our support and our cancellation conditions do not apply. These cancellation conditions are created for the good of your TripMates as well as for you. We want to make sure that no one has to stand in the rain in the event of a cancellation.
6. Ask your TripMates about their wishes
Yes, as TripLeader you are responsible for planning the trip. But of course, you can also let your TripMates take part in it. Ask them about their wishes for the trip. You never know, your TripMates might have some amazing suggestions that you never knew of. It also makes the trip more interesting and fun and will help your trip become an adventure together as if you are friends!
7. Inform yourself about the current situation at the destination
Especially because of the current situation it is important that you are always informed about the situation in your destination. Also make sure that your TripMates are informed about the other important things like visa, money, health insurance, vaccinations etc. and take care of them!
8. Make sure that the costs are transparent
For all costs that are not included in the trip costs, we recommend using an app during the trip (like Travel Spend). This way you can keep track of everything and at the end of the trip, you can transparently divide the costs within the group. This is a great way to keep on top of spending throughout the trip, as sometimes you may need to pay as a whole. This will save a lot of hassle at the end as we do not want anyone to be sitting on extra costs.

9. Always have a plan B!
Planning is crucial when traveling, but not everything will go smoothly! As a TripLeader you have to stay calm in such situations, so it’s best to always have a plan B ready. Being organized is essential when planning a trip, and a Plan B is just an extra bit of organization. We are always happy to try our best to help and to support you.
