Boulder enthusiasts in the forest of Fontainebleau.

55km south of Paris you will find the small town of Fontainebleau and its famous forest, Forêt de Fontainebleau. The forest is the largest contiguous forest area in Western Europe and is famous for its bouldering area. The bouldering area in the forest of Fontainebleau is known worldwide as the place where bouldering was invented. Since 1947 there is a bouldering course here, where you climb from rock to rock without touching the ground. If you plan properly, you will never climb on the same rocks. However, when the weather is good, it can get very crowded at certain spots in the area. The perfect time to go climbing in Fontainebleau is in the spring or fall when the weather is mild but nice.
