Berlin FAQ
If you’ve never been to Germany or Berlin, there are a few questions you might have and a few things to keep in mind. Let’s dive right in…
Is it safe to travel to Berlin?
In short: YES! Berlin is safe and open in many ways. However, it is a major European city with many tourists, so there are pickpockets. Take care of your valuables, keep them close to you and be aware of your surroundings.
Do I tip in Berlin?
Yes, please tip your waitstaff at restaurants. If the service is excellent, you could tip up to 15%, but everything from 5-10% is perfectly acceptable. Also, be aware that Germans LOVE cash. Carry some Euros and an Electronic Cash Card to be safe.
How do I get around Berlin?
If you want to see the best (and the worst) of Germany’s capital, take public transport to get from one point of interest to another. The S-Bahn and U-Bahn will take you around the city quickly and easily. You can get tickets online via the DB App or ticket machines at the stations or on a bus. We wouldn’t recommend getting a taxi, as city traffic can be horrible and taxi rates are costly.
