KeflavĂk International Airport
Day 1-2
Day 1 Saturday - Arrival in Iceland: KeflavĂk International Airport to accommodation (~ 140 km) Welcome to Iceland! Depending on the time of your arrival, you can meet me at KeflavĂk International Airport (KEF) for the rental car collection in the afternoon or I can pick you up in Reykjavik while passing the city on our way north. If you haven't been to Iceland before, I would definitely recommend you plan a couple of days extra either before or after our journey in order to visit Iceland's capital. We will have approximately a 2.5 hour drive ahead of us to our first accommodation, which is located close to the small village of BĂŠr and on the shore of a river. Once there, we can move into the allocated bungalows and have our first delicious local dinner. There, you will be given an introduction to what to look forward to during the week and I will provide you with all the necessary details of the trip. â

Hvammstangi
Day 2
Day 2 Sunday: Drive to Hvammstangi (~ 130 km) Today is our first sightseeing day and, of course, we begin it with a rich breakfast, which will be served by our host! I have planned out an interesting itinerary for today. We cover the first 130 km today on the Ring Road and drive further north to the small settlement called Hvammstangi. đŠHvammstangi is known for its colonies of seals that usually stay here around April till mid-September. So we have a good chance of spotting a few! But again, as always with animals and nature: It is unpredictable and we will be hoping for the best outcome! â

Akureyri
Day 2
Day 2: continue from Hvammstangi to Akureyri (~ 200 km) After a rest, we drive to the little port city at the head of the EyjafjörĂ°ur Fjord: Akureyri. It is a beautiful town and we can buy some local specialities and souvenirs and get the vibe of northern Iceland. We decide as a group what time we want to drive back to our accommodation. We end the day by relaxing in the hot tub of our guesthouse. Chances are good, we spot the northern lights here, as we are out in the north and far from any big city. â

GoĂ°afoss Waterfall
Day 2
Day 2: continue from Akureyri to GoĂ°afoss Waterfall (~ 50 km) After warming up in a cafe in Akureyri, we continue to the majestic GoĂ°afoss Waterfall, which translates into Water of the Gods. This is probably due to its size as it is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country, falling from a height of 12 metres over a width of 30 metres. We will take photos and can even do a small hike around the area. â

Laugar
Day 2-3
Day 2: continue from GoĂ°afoss Waterfall to accommodation (~ 15 km) In the late afternoon, we reach our accommodation, where we will spend the next four nights. It is located in a village with very little light pollution, so we have good chances of seeing the Northern Lights if the skies remain clear. â

HĂșsavĂk
Day 3
Day 3 Monday: Diamond Circle with HĂșsavĂk, Ăsbyrgi canyon, Dettifoss and more (~ 300 km) We have quite a long day ahead of us and begin our day early in the morning with breakfast. The Diamond Circle is less busy than the Golden Circle in the south of Iceland and includes some of the most stunning sights and spots for unearthly landscapes. Our tour starts with a drive north towards the whale city of HĂșsavĂk. â

MĂœvatn Nature Baths
Day 3-4
We end our day tour in a beautiful lagoon! Less touristic and more fun than the over-run Blue Lagoon! In the afternoon, we give our tired feet and bodies a rest in the warm mineral rich water. The water here is unique in many ways. It contains a large number of minerals, is alkaline, and well suited for bathing. Due to its chemical composition, undesired bacteria and vegetation do not thrive in the lagoon making chloride or any other disinfectant redundant. We will stay until dark and hopefully be lucky to see the northern lights right from the pool! â

HĂșsavĂk
Day 4
Day 4 Tuesday: Whale Watching Tour in HĂșsavĂk (~ 40 km) We leave our guesthouse after breakfast and drive up north to HĂșsavĂk. Here, we begin our three-hour long whale watching boat trip. The tour includes complimentary coffee and Icelandic pastries and we will be provided with safety clothing. After that, we have time to explore the small villages around HĂșsavĂk and get to know local fishermen`s life beyond the big cities. â

StuĂ°lagil Canyon
Day 4
Day 5 Wednesday: Drive to StuĂ°lagil Canyon (~ 170 km) We visit some of the most secret and extraordinary gems of Iceland today: Studlagil Canyon and Fardagafoss Waterfall. After breakfast, we depart to a glacier valley, which harbors the StuĂ°lagil Canyon. With the largest number of basalt rock columns in Iceland and a stunning blue-green glacial river, Studlagil is a very special place to see and hike. We can spend several hours hiking around the canyon before we set for our next destination. â

Fardagafoss Waterfall
Day 4-5
Day 5: Continue to Fardagafoss Waterfall and back to accommodation (~ 290 km) Fardagafoss waterfall is a magnificent natural highlight not to be missed. It is one of few waterfalls in Iceland where we can walk behind its falling water. It also hides the remains of a collapsed lava cave. We will access the area behind the waterfall and see the cave ruins, holding onto chains bolted to the rocks. According to one Icelandic legend, the collapsed cave behind the waterfall has a terrifying story: A female troll lived in the cave, keeping a gold-filled cauldron in her lair. The gold has never been found and might still be in the cave or in the water. Maybe you will see something while visiting the waterfall. After our visit, we drive back to our accommodation and enjoy a traditional Icelandic dinner. â

ReykjavĂk
Day 5
Day 6 Thursday - End of the tour: Drive to KeflavĂk International Airport (~ 480 km) Unfortunately, our road trip comes to an end. We have 480 km ahead of us and with a speed limit of 80-90 km/h on the Rind Road we will be spending most of the day in the car. We will definitely make a couple of stops enroute where we see beautiful spots and enjoy the last glimpse of nature. Please make sure to book a flight (very) late in the evening or the next day. Or even better: stay a few days in Reykjavik (if you haven't seen it yet). Every amazing journey comes to an end and so we say farewell to our newly found travel buddies! Hope to see you soon in Iceland! đđ â
